Saturn transits to the next sign of Aquarius:
The new 2023 year brings a host of planetary changes, with the most prominent change being the movement of Saturn out of Capricorn into Aquarius on 1/17. Perhaps of all planetary transits, Saturn’s movement is the most deeply influential since Saturn spends roughly 2.3 – 3 years transiting any given zodiac sign. Saturn is also the most misunderstood of all the planets, so it’s worth reviewing Saturn’s basic features and orientation astrologically, before explaining its influence as it moves through the sign of Aquarius, where Saturn resides until 3-29-2025.
The most important lesson to learn regarding all of the planets, is to approach each individual planet on its own terms and mentally integrate its basic energy and orientation. Then you have an improved life experience as you associate and try to work with that planetary influence in your life. This is always true when trying to understand how to deal with and work through a particular planetary mahadasha (life cycle), which can last as long as 20 years of one’s life span. Without a balanced, thorough understanding of the planets, confusion, upset, dissatisfaction and struggle tend to dominate one’s perceptions and attitudes. Even having a clear understanding, it’s not always easy to navigate through life during certain more challenging dasha cycles and accompanying transits. However, it does provide an individual with some context, insight and direction for how best to approach certain periods of life.
Now that Saturn is changing signs to Aquarius, it’s a good time to review Saturn’s basic orientation. Saturn is the planet governing responsibility, work, commitment, perseverance, organization, practicality, and owning up to the truth and reality of your life situation, and what you promised to fulfill or complete. Saturn is not interested in how happy, satisfied or pleased one feels. Saturn represents the practical, work-oriented aspects of life and it forces a person to own up to one’s commitments and responsibilities. Saturn is heavy and serious. If something is out of order, not working well, been ignored or needs improvement and attention, Saturn has a way of showing us and directing our attention in that location, even if it is painful, upsetting, humiliating or otherwise. Work needs to be done, responsibility needs to be taken, adjustments or modifications need to be made, and that’s the lesson of Saturn. Saturn gives the gift of knowing what work needs to be done in your life at any given time. If you approach and work with Saturn on its own terms, then you will tend to make real progress, both materially, psychologically and spiritually. This process is not necessarily easy, fun or “enlightening”, but it is necessary, even if it’s just to provide some mental or emotional relief.
Saturn is always transiting through one of the 12 houses of each person’s astrological chart and this transit will influence people differently based on a series of factors related to the entire birth chart. The common denominator is that Saturn’s transit puts the spotlight, the microscope, directly on that life domain and asks the person to take a good hard look and see what needs repair, modification, adjustment, change or attention. There is no way out of it, since you can’t escape Saturn’s grip. If you don’t deal directly with the problems or issues that are showing up, then you suffer, and the message or prompting gets louder until you are forced to deal with it, even if it is not convenient, or what you hoped or asked for.
If you are honest, and begin to do the hard work required, then Saturn slowly but surely reveals your progress and you begin to feel stronger, more secure, less worried, and more aligned with yourself. You may be tired, but you know that you are doing the work that is necessary to grow, improve and make some necessary progress with your life. For this reason, people often fear or dislike Saturn. Yes, Saturn is considered a challenging planet, because it does not let anyone off the hook, and it requires hard work. If you tend to take short cuts in life or expect only pleasurable experiences, then it’s understandable that you won’t adapt to Saturn’s style, and therefore you won’t take well to the restrictions and hard lessons imposed during certain “saturnized” times. For example, Saturn is the planet ruling aging. If you don’t accept and adapt to changes that come with physical aging, then you suffer, longing for youthfulness, when that in fact is not your reality. At its greatest expression, Saturn awakens you to the truth, to the parts of yourself and your life experience that you have repressed, denied or ignored previously, and need attention and nurturance. From this vantage point, we can approach Saturn with gratitude and appreciation.
On 1/7, transiting Saturn moves to Aquarius and will transit there until 3-29-2025. On the positive side, Saturn rules the sign of Aquarius and is generally strong there, so this transit has the potential for making progress, advancing new ideas, new approaches for solving problems, reorganizing and improving large groups, organizations and communities, as well as creating new bonds of friendship in working toward a common goal of healing and improving the world at large. It is strong for advancing scientific and medical research, especially for “out-of-the-box” and unconventional approaches used in healing diseases. It is a good transit for alternative healing approaches that are effective. This transit benefits creative, open-minded thinking and yet it can also promote critical thinking and debates. It is beneficial for promoting artificial intelligence and computer-based technologies.
However, where there are holes, errors, narrow-mindedness, short-cuts or wishful thinking, Saturn will shine a light and expose those areas:
This Saturn transit puts the spotlight on groups, organizations and especially non-profit and humanitarian organizations. Not all organizations function well, even if well-intentioned and not all humanitarian organizations are truly “humanitarian,” just because they say they are. During this period, we’ll witness an increased level of scandals, when the truth comes out about certain organizations that are not truly how they represent themselves to be. Some organizations become toxic due to certain members in power who ruin the entire company. Other large organizations, business, charitable, spiritually-focused or otherwise, will come under the microscope and be held accountable. Some of these organizations will crumble, unfold and go bankrupt. This is especially true of “spiritual” organizations which come under the Aquarius umbrella, if there are holes or problems festering within. Odd, eccentric or unusual groups that are created on fabrications and ignorance will also come under greater scrutiny and questioning.
“Communities” are also governed by Aquarius. Belonging to a “community” does not make things great or perfect and it does not make someone better than someone who does not belong. There are downsides to community involvement, such as a narrow-minded mob mentality that can overtake intelligent, critical thinking. Other areas under more intense scrutiny will involve research institutions, including medical and scientific research. Which research organizations are truly credible and which are ineffectual, inefficient, produce shoddy work, and a waste of time and money? Another major area ruled by Aquarius is “friendships.” You may find yourself reevaluating your own social circle of friends, and the genuine bond that exists, or lack thereof.
Aquarius governs the “unconventional” and eccentric, in general. These behaviors and stylistics will also come under greater scrutiny as Saturn transits through Aquarius. Being free does not mean a person has the right to riot, be destructive, to rob stores and shoot people at will on the streets, with little to no consequences for his or her actions. Saturn will do its job, but it will get a bit harsh and even louder before situations change for the better, if that is possible.
13/01/2020
Surya (The Sun) moves into the sign of Capricorn on 14th/15th of January (based on where you are) and will stay there until 12th/13th of February.
Capricorn is ruled by Shani (Saturn) and is another earth sign in the zodiac along with Ta**us and Virgo and Surya feels comfortable here even though Capricorn is ruled by Shani (Son of Surya). This is an extremely important 'Sankranti' called “Makara Sankranti” and this begins an auspicious period known as “Uttarayana”.
Uttarayana - The term Uttarayana is derived from two different Sanskrit words “uttara” (North) and “ayana” (movement) indicating a semantic of the northward movement of the Earth on the celestial sphere. According to Hindu tradition the six months of Uttarayana are a single day of the Gods; the six months of Dakshinayana (Southern movement when Sun enters the sign of Cancer) are a single night of the Gods.
Sankranti - Whenever the Sun changes signs it is called “Sankranti”. A few hours before the shift into the new sign and few hours after is a very unsettling time for the Sun. For example when you move into a new home, the days before and after can be unsettling. Our ancient seers declared these days of transition unfit for any auspicious beginnings. It is a time to look back at the month that has passed, the key challenges you faced, the pros and cons and most importantly what were the key take-aways or lessons you learnt. You can also use this time wisely to prepare and plan for the month ahead.
The day of Sankranti is extremely auspicious for meditation, prayer, contemplation and self exploration. You will also benefit greatly by reading ancient scriptures.
Sun’s transit in 3 Nakshatras
Sun will be in Uttara Ashada (in the sign of Capricorn) from 14th Jan to 24th.
Uttara Ashada is the star of Invincible Victory and is ruled by the Sun. Uttara Ashada pada (part) 2 will be vargottama (Sun will occupy the same sign in D9 as well) which is a very powerful position for the Sun.
What is important during this period is patience and perseverance which will assure you of victory in your undertakings. Even if there are obstacles in the beginning, do the necessary rituals/remedies to overcome them and be victorious. Do not worry too much about not getting the credit for the work you have done during this time.
Vishwadevas rule this nakshatra but worship of Lord Ganesha is extremely effective and powerful during this period as the symbol of this nakshatra is an elephant’s tusk. The animal ruling this nakshatra is a mongoose, and if you have watched a video on the internet about the fight between a snake and a mongoose you will notice how the mongoose dodges the snake until the snake gets tired and then gives one final blow to mark his victory.
This kind of summarizes the essence of this nakshatra. Since the mongoose does not have a female counterpart in the animal symbology of nakshatras, this asterism is related somehow to loneliness, austerity and tapas. This is a good time to voluntarily give up things to purify yourself. So starting a new fitness and diet regime can workout for you.
Sun will be in Shravana Nakshatra from Jan 24th to Feb 6th
Shravana nakshatra is all about the art of listening. Spending time in silence and listening to your own inner voice will bring great insights. Be willing to see life in a different perspective and listen to what others are 'saying' with and without words. The story of Mahabali and Vamana has a great significance to understand how this nakshatra operates. Do not ignore valuable advices especially from your Guru during this time.
Keep tab of what your competitors are doing and do not underestimate the power of your opponents. Avoid arrogance and pride and do not take things for granted if you want this transit to work in your favor. Let go of the need to be heard, noticed and recognized.
Sun will be in Dhanishta Nakshatra from Feb 6th to Feb 13th
The last nakshatra that the Sun will transit in during its stay in Capricorn would be Dhanishta, ruled by Mars. This nakshatra is often referred to as the star of wealth and has a lot of connection with music and rhythm.
The deities of Dhanishta is the Ashta Vasus and it’s 'shakti' (strength) is to give fame and abundance. This is a great time for mantra chanting and japa practices
Spend some time to visualize and articulate your goals in life - contemplate on what is your higher purpose and make a plan to achieve it.

The Long-Term 3 Year Transit of Saturn into Sagittarius:
Approximately every 2.5 - 3 years, Saturn changes signs, so this is a longer term influence in our lives, and it is especially impactful when Saturn shifts from one sign to another as in 2017. The emphasis changes into a new area for evaluation and attention. Since 2014, Saturn has been in Scorpio and the themes governing Scorpio were discussed as focal points in previous newsletters. This year some of those themes receive a final round of attention, while Saturn makes sure those issues were attended to. These themes include understanding personal power & control, making major transformations & changes, sexuality, hidden & private areas of life, private investigations, major scandals, cybersecurity issues, psychological issues, as well as mundane propensity for earthquakes, volcanic eruptions, explosions and terrorist activities which have transpired since 2014.
Saturn entered Sagittarius on 1-27-2017 and will then retrograde back into Scorpio on 6-20-2017. Saturn will then transit through Scorpio until 10-26-2017, when it will directly move into Sagittarius and transit there until 1-24-2020. So, the summer months and early fall of 2017 will still be influenced by this final round of Saturn transiting through Scorpio. The rest of the year brings the influence of Saturn in Sagittarius.
During 2017, it is an “in-between” year, where Saturn forces us to go back and make sure we fix any problems associated with that particular transit in Scorpio since 2014. Saturn slowly carves away at mutations and problems, as it slowly moves through a constellation and then back tracks (retrogrades) usually for 4 months of the year, while asking us to go back over our work associated with this transit. Saturn demands that problems in a particular place be confronted directly.
Even though Saturn is often feared and resisted, it is also a planet of truth. When problems are acknowledged, then they can be examined and resolved. As long as we work responsibly & diligently toward facing problems and attempt to resolve issues without taking short-cuts, Saturn will treat us more kindly. Try to hide or ignore them and that’s when the trouble deepens, and hence Saturn gets a bad reputation.
While Saturn transits through Sagittarius, the emphasis is focused on issues and problems associated with the legal/judicial system, laws, judges, philosophies, religions, spirituality, higher education and universities, knowledge, truth, life purpose, freedom and the travel system, especially involving travel between foreign countries. All of these areas are going under the microscope for the next three years.
As such, expect challenges to the judicial system to be paramount. We can expect a shake-up in the Supreme Court, as well as the rewriting of some major laws. Perhaps a new amendment to the U.S. constitution will occur? How justice is served in the courts, judges themselves and other individuals who are supposed to uphold the law will come under greater scrutiny. The inner workings of the justice system itself will be reexamined. How are criminals treated and how are victims treated through the legal system and is this just and fair, for example?
Sagittarius is the sign governing religion and of the proselytizer. Saturn moving through Sagittarius will shine a spot light on religion itself and there are likely to be more arguments involving religious doctrine and supposed superiority of one religion over another. The place of religion in society, as well as within individual lives will receive more attention. Scandals involving religious leaders will come to light more readily. Charlatans and dogmatic leaders will be exposed as well.
The desire for freedom, freedom of speech, freedom of movement, freedom to live one’s life without oppression and freedom of self expression will be more urgent during the next few years, all governed by Jupiter, the planet ruling Sagittarius. How much freedom is acceptable? Where and how? Expect more heated debates on this particular area. The desire for freedom on all fronts will grow.
Weeding out the truth, separating various ideals, fantasies & beliefs, separating fact from fiction and defining ethical behavior are also focal points.
The educational systems and especially universities will come under greater scrutiny for their effectiveness and purpose. Schools that have gotten off track will be forced to improve, shape up or lose accreditation and funding. Several schools will close or go bankrupt during the next few years. What it means to be “educated” will come under closer scrutiny also.
During part of 2017, Saturn’s early transit into Sagittarius will pass through Mula nakshatra. Mula means “the root.” It is a nakshatra that promotes getting to the deeper meaning or root cause of a problem. It is a nakshatra of controversy, of fighting to remove ignorance and to heal. Its shakti is the power to destroy or crush. Saturn moving through Mula will push to remove ignorance and destroy it, even if it is painful to give up certain beliefs or old ingrained attitudes and approaches. This type of energy is likely to increase discomfort due to attachments to dogmas, ideas, philosophies and belief systems.
Few people like to be challenged on his or her ideas, belief systems, religion, spirituality or purpose. Most people attach to an ideology and want to believe it is the real “truth,” at least it is “their” real truth. Or, they attach to the belief that a certain person is their icon of perfection, possessing high ethical standards, and is wise and just, especially a spiritual or religious leader, Guru or professor, who becomes challenged while Saturn makes this transit. Their flaws are exposed, and their human imperfections magnified for review. Individuals in these positions will be subject to analysis for their behaviors, ethics and viewpoints. Religious doctrine and its interpretation is challenged as well. If there is nothing to expose, then these leaders will be fine. If there is a scandal or unethical behavior lurking, we will find out about it. Charismatic religious zealots who proselyte will be even more outspoken and then likely fall to their demise under this transit.
These above areas set the tone for the next three years, and changes will arise in these particular domains while Saturn transits through Sagittarius.
The Jupiter/Rahu conjunction in force:
During June, retrograding Jupiter and Rahu will move closer together and form a tight exact conjunction on 6/24. The combination of Jupiter and Rahu promotes unconventional approaches to spirituality, religion, education, children (pregnancy), as well as belief systems. Going against the societal status quo and against the established government/ruling systems continues. Challenges to government, established authority figures and leadership continue, while Jupiter & Rahu transit through Leo, the sign of authority (the king).
Moreover, both Jupiter and Rahu are transiting through Purva Phalguni nakshatra, which is associated with financial transactions involving partnerships or inherited wealth. The desire of this nakshatra is to gain one’s perceived “fair share,” and Jupiter itself is the main planet governing finances/prosperity. With Rahu also in this nakshatra, there’s a compulsive drive to go after wealth, or perhaps take some risks without thinking about the potential negative consequences.
The challenges to Venus in 2015 In November, relationships, finances and pleasures come under intense scrutiny, analysis and judgment. There will be a greater tendency to criticize, evaluate and find fault with other people’s behavior under this transit. It does not bode well for comfortable, pleasant interactions this month. Venus also governs healing, the arts, pleasures, comforts, finances, real estate matters and vehicles. It may be a good time to repair and improve these areas in your life this month. But, this is not an optimal time to get married or enter into new personal relationships, unless you have a predilection for discord, debate, judging and criticizing each other. Love goes out the door and practicality fills its place in relationships. Both Venus and Mars join with Rahu, which is transiting at approximately 4:32 degrees Virgo. Venus is weak in its debilitated position in Virgo and it is now transiting with two malefic influences, that of Mars and Rahu. Venus transits through Virgo until 11/29 and Mars transits there until 12/12/2015.
For September 2015, Mercury turns retrograde on 9/17 in its exalted sign of Virgo and conjuncts Rahu. Mercury then turns direct on 10/9 and continues its forward transit through Virgo until 10-29-2015. This case of Mercury retrograde in its exalted position is powerful. While some of the same issues arise as with most Mercury retrograde periods, such as mix-ups in communication, travel or appointment delays, forgetfulness, breakdowns with mechanical equipment and power outages, this particular Mercury retrograde has interesting positive potential for expression.
When a planet transits its exalted position and then retrogrades, the nice result of the transit, is that the planet will spend extra time in a strong placement, as compared to moving only direct through a zodiac sign. While Mercury spends extra time moving through exalted Virgo, this is an excellent two months for cleaning up records, improving and fine-tuning your computer and electronic equipment, databases and electronic documentation. This is a great time for organizing everything in your life in a meticulous manner. This is a good month to pay attention to detail, the more miniscule elements, the numbers and calculations, budgets, systematic review of finances and records, as well as all analytic work.
our chart is a map or mirror showing many complex aspects of your personality manifesting in this lifetime. The more each of us takes personal responsibility for the events & experiences that manifest, for learning, improving, detaching and awakening, the better and freer we will become. Use the astrology to gain insight and awareness and to assist you in figuring out the direction to go, and when to make important decisions, based on your personality profile. Don’t experience yourself as a victim. You created it all. No one else is responsible.
David Goldstein
The benefit of learning about yourself, via the interpretation of your astrological chart, is that you can potentially gain a deeper understanding of aspects of yourself that you may have rejected, denied or not acknowledged previously. The exact direction of your life is not completely pre-determined. You clearly have a history, genetic profile, and certain potentials or lack thereof that you bring into this lifetime.
The question remains, “What are you going to do with the information?” Will you dig yourself deeper into a karmic hole or raise yourself to a new level of awareness? Will you tap more deeply into your innate talents and utilize them, or ignore them? Will you work on strengthening your weaknesses, or deny them? There is no age limit for learning or self-development.
The astrological chart is a sacred representation of your complete personality, how you perceive the world, where you are stuck and blind, where you are powerful and wise, where you are going to get caught up emotionally, where you are weak, where you are strong, what talents you possess, what problems are likely to show up and when, etc. These qualities and tendencies are “reflected” through the complete individual astrological chart, not just one section of the chart, but the ENTIRE chart. How you respond to this information is completely up to you.
The “planets” don’t harm you and they don’t do anything to you personally. The planetary conditions in your astrological chart represent your consciousness. The planets don’t have anything against us or for us, and while they all have different qualities and natures and specific manifestations, they don’t cause pain or gain. “You” are completely responsible for your own reality and your life. You are not a victim of the planets or of your astrological chart, anymore than a mirror is responsible for your physical appearance. The chart represents “you” and the unfolding of your karmas and when they will fructify. Each of us is responsible for creating the chart we have.
Jupiter’s transit through Leo begins on 7-13-2015 and will last until 8-11-2016, for approximately the next 13 months. This Jupiter transit will benefit those individuals with planets in the fire signs, Leo, Sagittarius and Aries, by receiving Jupiter’s benefic aspect. Aquarius planets also receive the benefic Jupiter aspect.
This transit grants favor to the real estate market, the entertainment, movie, film, & music industry, as well as financial gain through partnership, deal making and it promotes relationships and marriage. It is also beneficial for medical/healing activities. This transit of Jupiter also promotes legal matters, expansion of larger corporations and mergers and acquisitions between larger companies.
