Prayer Brings Us to the Heart of God
Hebrews 4:16 (NKJV)
“Let us therefore come boldly to the throne of grace, that we may obtain mercy and find grace to help in time of need.”
Prayer is one of the greatest privileges God has given His people. We do not merely speak words into the air—we approach “the throne of grace.” Through Jesus Christ, ordinary people are given extraordinary access to the living God.
Prayer is supernatural because we are communing with the God who created heaven and earth. Yet God designed prayer to become as natural to the believer as speaking with someone we love. We do not need a particular building, posture, or hour. Wherever we are, God is near.
Psalm 145:18 (NKJV)
“The LORD is near to all who call upon Him, to all who call upon Him in truth.”
Prayer, therefore, should not be reserved only for emergencies. It should become the rhythm of daily life. We pray when we awaken, while we work, when decisions must be made, when burdens become heavy, and when blessings fill our hearts with gratitude.
Paul writes:
1 Thessalonians 5:16–18 (NKJV)
“Rejoice always, pray without ceasing, in everything give thanks; for this is the will of God in Christ Jesus for you.”
To “pray without ceasing” does not mean that we spend every waking moment on our knees. It means that we live with a heart continually turned toward God. Prayer becomes an ongoing conversation—praise, confession, thanksgiving, petition, and quiet dependence upon Him.
A Heart of Gratitude
The more we recognize God's grace, the more naturally prayer flows from the heart. Gratitude turns ordinary moments into opportunities for worship.
Colossians 4:2 (NKJV)
“Continue earnestly in prayer, being vigilant in it with thanksgiving.”
Do not think of prayer merely as something you have to do. Think of prayer as the astonishing privilege of being welcomed into the presence of the King.
Prayer brings the finite into communion with the Infinite, the needy before the throne of grace, and the grateful heart into fellowship with its Creator.
Prayer
Father, thank You for giving us access to Your presence through Jesus Christ. Teach us not merely to pray occasionally, but to live prayerfully. Make prayer the natural outflow of hearts that recognize Your goodness and depend upon Your grace. May we seek You in our joys, our sorrows, our decisions, and the ordinary moments of every day. Draw our hearts continually toward Your throne of grace, and teach us to walk in fellowship with You. In Jesus’ name, Amen.

August 20, 1153: Bernard of Clairvaux, French theologian, monastic reformer, and hymn writer (“O Sacred Head Now Wounded”), dies. His motto was “To Know Jesus and Jesus Crucified” (see issue 24: Bernard of Clairvaux).
August 20, 1745: Francis Asbury, one of the two first Methodist bishops in America (the other was Thomas Coke), is born in Birmingham, England (see issue 45: Camp Meetings and Circuit Riders).
August 20, 1912: William Booth, founder and first General of the Salvation Army, dies (see issue 26: William and Catherine Booth).

La oración nos lleva al corazón de Dios
Hebreos 4:16 (RVR1960)
“Acerquémonos, pues, confiadamente al trono de la gracia, para alcanzar misericordia y hallar gracia para el oportuno socorro.”
La oración es uno de los privilegios más grandes que Dios ha dado a Su pueblo. No hablamos simplemente palabras al aire; nos acercamos al “trono de la gracia.” Por medio de Jesucristo, personas comunes reciben un acceso extraordinario al Dios vivo.
La oración es sobrenatural porque estamos en comunión con el Dios que creó los cielos y la tierra. Sin embargo, Dios diseñó la oración para que llegue a ser tan natural para el creyente como hablar con alguien a quien amamos. No necesitamos un edificio, una postura o una hora determinada. Dondequiera que estemos, Dios está cerca.
Salmo 145:18 (RVR1960)
“Cercano está Jehová a todos los que le invocan, a todos los que le invocan de veras.”
Por lo tanto, la oración no debe reservarse solamente para las emergencias. Debe convertirse en el ritmo de nuestra vida diaria. Oramos al despertar, mientras trabajamos, cuando debemos tomar decisiones, cuando las cargas se hacen pesadas y cuando las bendiciones llenan nuestro corazón de gratitud.
Pablo escribe:
1 Tesalonicenses 5:16–18 (RVR1960)
“Estad siempre gozosos. Orad sin cesar. Dad gracias en todo, porque esta es la voluntad de Dios para con vosotros en Cristo Jesús.”
“Orad sin cesar” no significa que pasemos cada momento del día de rodillas. Significa que vivimos con un corazón continuamente vuelto hacia Dios. La oración se convierte en una conversación constante: alabanza, confesión, acción de gracias, petición y una dependencia tranquila de Él.
Un corazón agradecido
Cuanto más reconocemos la gracia de Dios, más naturalmente brota la oración de nuestro corazón. La gratitud transforma los momentos ordinarios en oportunidades para adorar.
Colosenses 4:2 (RVR1960)
“Perseverad en la oración, velando en ella con acción de gracias.”
No pensemos en la oración simplemente como algo que tenemos que hacer. Pensemos en ella como el asombroso privilegio de ser recibidos en la presencia del Rey.
La oración lleva al ser finito a la comunión con el Infinito, al necesitado ante el trono de la gracia, y al corazón agradecido a la comunión con su Creador.
Oración
Padre, gracias por darnos acceso a Tu presencia por medio de Jesucristo. Enséñanos no solamente a orar ocasionalmente, sino a vivir en oración. Haz que la oración sea el fluir natural de corazones que reconocen Tu bondad y dependen de Tu gracia. Que te busquemos en nuestras alegrías, en nuestras tristezas, en nuestras decisiones y en los momentos ordinarios de cada día. Atrae continuamente nuestros corazones hacia Tu trono de gracia y enséñanos a caminar en comunión contigo. En el nombre de Jesús. Amén. Pastor Eddie Ildefonso
