At its peak the Khmer Empire controlled most of Southeast Asia and built Angkor Wat — the largest religious complex ever constructed — along with hundreds of other temples across the region.
Then around 1431 AD the capital was abandoned overnight.
The jungle swallowed everything within decades.
Nobody fully knows why.
