✨🇻🇳WSDC 2026 | Motions & Memories🇰🇪🇻🇳

This year’s WSDC brought a dynamic and challenging set of motions that pushed teams across philosophy, policy, ethics, sports governance, activism, and technology.

From debates on:
- Supporting Kenya’s Special Economic Zones
- Classifying major organised crime groups as terrorist organisations
- Whether AI companies should abandon sycophancy as a design strategy,
- Allowing fans to veto player personnel decisions in sports clubs
- Regretting the belief that suffering builds character
- Encouraging activists to break the law to defend animal rights,

…and the many intense elimination round clashes that followed - each round demanded clarity, courage, and adaptability.

🇻🇳🇻🇳Team Vietnam came to this tournament with heart, preparation, and a line‑up ready to rise to the moment. Across prepared and impromptu rounds alike, our speakers stepped into every room with composure and conviction, proudly carrying the red flag on the world stage. 🇻🇳🔥

🌎🏆To the Motion Committee - thank you for crafting motions that were thought‑provoking, balanced, and deeply challenging. They sparked conversations we will continue long after the tournament ends.

This morning, Team Vietnam is heading to Double-Octos to meet with our friend, Czechia. As we had the privilege of sparring with 🇨🇿 before, Team 🇻🇳 heads in with a little bit of nervousness but also confidence from familiarity and excitement.

🇻🇳✨ TEAM VIETNAM HAS OFFICIALLY BROKEN AT WSDC 2026!✨🇰🇪

After 4 days of rigorous debate, we finish the preliminary rounds with 5️⃣wins and 1️⃣5️⃣ballots and advance to the elimination rounds. ❤️🔥

This marks a historic milestone:
🇻🇳The 10th WSDC Team Vietnam, the youngest team ever to represent Vietnam, has now become the 4th team in our nation’s history to BREAK at WSDC.

From months of preparation to four intense days on the world stage, this achievement belongs not only to our five debaters, but to everyone who stood behind them.

Sau 4 ngày tranh biện đầy thử thách và căng thẳng, chúng ta khép lại vòng loại với 5️⃣ chiến thắng và 1️⃣5️⃣ ballots chính thức tiến vào vòng loại trực tiếp. ❤️🔥

Đây là một cột mốc lịch sử:
🇻🇳 Đội tuyển WSDC Việt Nam thứ 10, đồng thời là đội trẻ nhất từng đại diện Việt Nam, nay đã trở thành đội thứ 4 trong lịch sử nước nhà BREAK tại WSDC.

Từ nhiều tháng chuẩn bị đến bốn ngày thi đấu quyết liệt trên đấu trường thế giới, thành tích này không chỉ thuộc về năm debaters của chúng ta, mà còn thuộc về tất cả những người đã luôn đồng hành phía sau.

🇻🇳✨Day 03 | WSDC Kenya 2026 Update✨🇰🇪

Today we add 1 win and 4 ballots, bringing our total to: 4️⃣ wins - 1️⃣2️⃣ ballots after 6 rounds and 3 days of hard battles ❤️🔥

🇪🇪🇻🇳Round 5
On Opposition against Estonia for the motion:
“This House Would allow fans to veto player personnel decisions of sports clubs…”
A close debate - we took 1 ballot, with the round going to Estonia.

🇻🇳🇮🇱Round 6**
On Proposition against Israel for the motion:
“This House Regrets the predominant belief that suffering builds character.”
A unanimous decision 3–0 to Vietnam.🇻🇳✨

We close the day proud, grateful, and deeply aware of how far this team has come. Before leaving Vietnam, Ms. Hyewon, our Program Director reminded us of the goal: “We always aim to do better than the year before.”

With three returning students, today marks a poignant milestone. Thanks to the tireless training of our coaches and the unwavering support of our parents and community, we have achieved our goal of earning “one more win than last year”, keeping the promise of pushing our flag, our national ranking forward.

But we’re not done yet. One more win is what we need to tightly secure the break at this year’s WSDC.

🇻🇳✨ Day 02 | WSDC Kenya 2026 Update✨🇰🇪

Two impromptu motions. Big learning curves.

We close Day 02 with 1 win and 3 ballots, bringing our total after 4 rounds to: 3️⃣wins & 8️⃣ballots❤️

🇻🇳🇭🇰Round 03 (Impromptu)
On Proposition against Hong Kong for the motion:
“This House Believes That it is in the interest of AI companies to abandon sycophancy as a design strategy.”
(AI sycophancy: when LLMs agree with or flatter users even at the risk of being misleading.)

After a close debate, we received a 1–2 split decision, with the round going to Opposition Hong Kong. A narrow loss, but a valuable fight.

🇮🇹🇻🇳Round 04 (Impromptu)
On Opposition against Italy for the motion:
“This House Believes That animal rights organizations should encourage activists to break the law to defend animals.”

Another tight split, but this time, Team 🇻🇳 took the win.🔥

Impromptu rounds test clarity, composure, and instinct. Today reminded us why resilience matters.

Walking into the tournament hall. Wearing the flag on your chest. Hearing your country’s name called.

This is the moment before any round begins, the quiet breath before the first speech. The moment where months of training, years of hard work, countless spars, and late nights finally settle into one simple realization:

THIÊN BẢO, YOUIE, PHAN ANH, UYÊN & BM - WE ARE HERE!

For our five debaters, representing Vietnam - the country where they learn, grow, and call home - on a world stage in Kenya is more than just a competition. It’s an honor. It’s a memory and hopefully, history in the making.

From classrooms to the global stage, this is what it means to be part of a national team. 🌍❤️
