R/V CMU TAGU Tour: Navigation Equipment | 21/06/2020

The R/V CMU TAGU is a donation by the German civil and hydraulic engineering company TAGU, a part of LUDWIG FREYTAG Group, donated to us in summer 2019. We sailed the CMU TAGU from Montego Bay to the jetty at the CMU main campus in September 2019.

The Research Vessel (R/V) is equipped with all modern technical equipment necessary for safe operation on the high seas. See the article.

CMU TAGU - Survey equipment on board | The CMU TAGU has all modern technical equipment necessary for safe operation on the high seas. As a special research vessel, the ship is equipped with modern appliances for hydrographic surveys (for example, with a state-of-the-art Multi Beam Echo Sound EM 3002 by KONGSBERG).

We are working on the muffler system of our research vessel. We have a concept to use the boat in a multi-purpose, multi-modular way: against Sargassum Seaweed, for collecting debris in the Kingston Harbor, for hydrographic surveys, for international research cooperation and of course also as a training vessel for our students.

Attending the Regional Workshop „Western Tropical Atlantic Regional Workshop“ to prepare the United Nations Decade of Oceans Science for Sustainable Development 2021-2030. It is a two day workshop, a virtual workshop because of COVID 2019. I must say it is a strange experience. More than 600 participants are attending the workshop sitting somewhere in front of their computers. Amazing how well the technology is functioning, including the different PowerPoint presentations and including online voting.
