Vision and Mission Math Department (Primary Section)
Mathematics is all around us; It underpins much of our daily and our future as individual and collectively. It is therefore of fundamental importance, with our vision as teachers to ensure that our students have the best possible grounding in mathematics during their primary years. Number, arithmetic is a key compone
nt of this, to add, subtract, multiply and divide, both mentally and using traditional written methods, to calculate and reason about numbers of all dimensions. These are the best starting points for equipping our students for their future lives. In our school, we place a strong emphasis on providing a challenging experience where everybody is included and everyone is successful, providing guidance on the teaching of mathematics through daily lessons in Early Years, Key Stages 1 and 2 and promoting whole-class interactive teaching. The Strategy’s primary framework and supporting materials have been widely adopted by our teachers’ in the primary section. Our aim in calculation is to teach a series of mental and informal methods to develop our students’ grasp of number and flexibility in approaches, before moving on to more efficient traditional ways of setting the calculations out. A mathematically rich Reception classroom Math (Primary Section)
Our teachers seize every opportunity for children to use mathematics in everyday activities. Working our daily attendance and absence of boys and girls becomes a shared activity, which significantly improves our students’ addition and subtraction skills. Similarly, every attempt is made to develop our students’ understanding and use of mathematical concepts and practices.
