Tuakana–Teina 🌿✨

One of the best parts of a mixed-age preschool is watching those beautiful tuakana–teina relationships grow.

Our older tuakana share their skills, knowledge and wonderings with their younger teina, learning alongside each other through experimenting, exploring and following curiosity. 🔍✨

Through these shared experiences, tamariki are developing mathematical concepts, building working theories and learning from one another.

Learning together, growing together. 💛

We love our big windows! They give our tamariki the perfect view of the world going by. 🌏💛

Counting trucks 🚛, noticing the clouds ☁️, watching who’s walking past and keeping an eye out for our whānau coming and going.

Sometimes the simplest moments create the best opportunities for connection, curiosity and learning.

The best window into the world is through children’s eyes. ✨🐝

Fine motor skills are such a big part of children’s development! 👐✨

Did you know it takes a LOT of brain power for our tamariki to coordinate those little fingers to grasp, grip, twist, pinch and manipulate the things around them?

That’s why providing lots of opportunities to practice, perfect and master these skills is so important. From threading and playdough to puzzles, drawing, building and using tools…every little experience is helping strengthen those fingers, build coordination and support growing independence.

Those little fingers are doing BIG things! 💛🐝

Some people might see mess, chaos, junk and random toys when they walk into our classrooms and see all the open-ended resources and loose parts…

But we see something completely different. 👀✨

We see endless possibilities, creativity, problem-solving, imagination and opportunities for our tamariki to explore, experiment and bring their ideas to life.

Every piece has a purpose. Every loose part has a possibility. And every experience is helping our future leaders develop the skills, confidence and curiosity to create, build and perfect their craft. 💛🐝

The satisfaction of independently completing something you’ve spent time, patience and energy perfecting! 🥰🙌

That little moment of “I did it!” is HUGE for our tamariki. It builds confidence, resilience, independence and a real sense of achievement.

So don’t forget to celebrate the wins…. big or small! 🎉💛🐝

Recently, we had the beautiful choir from Woodend School come along and sing for our tamariki. 🎶💛

What a wonderful experience! Not only did it give the choir an opportunity to practice performing in front of a group, but it also role models to our tamariki what it means to be brave, bold and confident.

It shows our tamariki that it’s okay to step outside your comfort zone, try something new and give things a go, even when you might feel a little nervous! 🌟

We loved having you visit and sharing your beautiful voices with us! 🐝🎶

👀 Look out… Certified Fun Facilitators are out in the wild! 🐝✨

Our Kaiako are out and about, making sure our tamariki are safe, having fun, exploring the world and making the most of every day! 🌏💛

Because that’s what we’re all about, creating opportunities where children can be curious, confident and free to learn through doing, discover through play and have the absolute best days! 🐝✨

Remembering Our Why 🌿✨

Our preschool tamariki have been creating their very own taonga… a rakau stick that they can use as they practice and master their pepeha, building confidence, connection and a strong sense of identity. 💛

We aspire for our tamariki to be on this journey in a mana-enhancing way, supporting them to know who they are, where they come from and the people, places and stories that connect them.

Each tamariki has thoughtfully contributed to our rakau which represents their whakapapa, whenua and connections to their wider system. 🌿

As they hold their taonga and share their pepeha, they are not only developing confidence and communication skills, they are strengthening their sense of belonging and celebrating what makes them uniquely them. ✨

Learning to Coexist Together 🌱

Sometimes the biggest learning happens in the smallest moments. Right now, we are learning how to coexist with others in our space... how to play alongside each other, share resources, navigate emotions, and build positive social connections.

This is what preschool is all about. It is a place where our tamariki and pēpi are given opportunities to experience the real world in a safe and supportive environment. Through these everyday interactions, they learn how to communicate, problem-solve, understand others, and find their place within a group.

These moments may look simple, but they are building the foundations for relationships, belonging, and being a confident member of our wider community.

Celebrating Our Success! 🐝✨

How wonderful it was to see Han and our amazing team recognised with the Educational Excellence Award, at the recent Busy Bees Conference 🏆✨ for outstanding delivery of inspirational teaching and learning!

We have been on such a journey of centre enhancement, growth and continuous improvement, and it’s super exciting to see all of that mahi being recognised and acknowledged as a standard of educational excellence. 🌿📚

A huge ka pai to our incredible teaching team, this award is a reflection of the passion, commitment and heart you bring to our tamariki every day. ❤️

And a big shout-out to our sister centre, Busy Bees Avonhead , who were also recognised with their very well-deserved Transformation Award! 🥇🐝
