💛💛 Yellow Day Sensory Fun! 💛💛

Our tamariki had so much fun exploring a wonderfully yellow sensory experience today! 🌟 With bright yellow colours, squishy textures and plenty of hands-on exploration, there was lots of squeezing, stretching, scooping and discovering happening.

Sensory play is such a fantastic way for children to explore using their senses while developing curiosity, creativity, fine motor skills and language. Of course, the best part was getting our hands messy and having lots of fun! 💛🟡🐥

Our nursery is named after the Rito, the tender baby shoots at the heart of the harakeke (Flax) bush. Just as the Rito is nurtured and protected by the surrounding leaves, our little ones are cared for, supported and encouraged to grow. Rito is a safe and loving environment with thoughtful care routines and individualised care.

Introducing our Kōrari room, named form the flower of the Harakekek bush.. Kōrari symbolises growth and emergence-refelcting the beautiful journey from pēpi to toddler. Our toddler room honours this stage of development, nurturing tamariki as they blossom in confidence, independence and curiosu=ity within a supportive responsive team.

🌱🌿 Growing Little Gardeners in the Whāriki Room! 🌿🌱

Our Whāriki tamariki have been exploring the wonderful world of seeds, plants and everything that happens beneath the soil! 🌱

We began by sharing our ideas and theories — What do seeds need to grow? What happens underneath the ground? How do earthworms help our plants? — and the tamariki put their thinking onto paper through drawings and shared explanations. ✏️🌻

We then took our learning from ideas to hands-on experiences, getting our hands into the soil and planting our very own seeds! 🪴🌱 A huge thank you to one of our wonderful expert mum, Lauren for sharing her knowledge and helping our tamariki learn about planting, caring for and nurturing growing things. 💚

We love seeing our tamariki wonder, question, investigate, share their theories and test their ideas — exactly the kind of learning that grows alongside them. 🌿✨

Now comes the exciting part… watching and waiting to see what grows! 👀🌱

We are so lucky that our Preschool backs on to a beautiful wetlands full of rich learning potential. We had been watching the swans and signets for a few weeks, from the fortin our playground. We had to get a closer look, so organised and excursion (followed by a picnic) to see nature up close.
As we approached mum and dad swan, swam the signets to the furtherest away part of the pond. Ngā tamariki were listening so well, that were able to follow for a closer look.
On our travels we also saw Candian geese, Paradise ducks, and Oyster catcher birds that had made their home in our back yard.
Our centre usually provides lunch so as a treat we had a luchbox day picnic at the end of our exporing walk. So much fun!

A favourite story for our tamariki "Owl Babies" set up as a beautiful provocation.
Tamariki can role play with crocheted versions of Sarah, Percy and Bill, as they anxious wait for the return of their mother.
Why this pukapuka/Book?
The book normalises feeling scared when a caregiver leaves. It teaches children that it is okay to feel anxious. It reassures children that parents always return after they go away. This makes it an ideal book for starting nursery or school. Sibling Solidarity: The three owlets comfort and support one another while they wait. This highlights the importance of family bonds and looking out for siblings.
