A huge congratulations to William McArthur who is our Waihi Bagpipe Teacher. Such a magnificent achievement as only the best in the land gain a top 3 place in this grade! Well done Willie and we are so lucky to have you teaching our tamariki.

Shout out to our Pipe Major William McArthur who competed at the HB Easter Highland Gathering in Hastings over Easter Weekend.

William placed an outstanding 2nd place in the Gold Medal Piobaireachd.

Last week our Choir & Kapa Haka students enjoyed an unforgettable Cultural Tour of the North Island! From a warm welcome at Huntley School, complete with workshops and a packed concert featuring our crowd-pleaser The Rattlin’ Bog, to an inspiring stay at St Marks, the week was full of connection, performance, and fun.

Highlights included a brilliant drama session with Courtney Abbott, collaborative choir workshops with Alison Stewart and Jo Rosario, a visit to Weta Workshop, a guided tour of Parliament with MP James Meager, and time exploring Te Papa and the Basin Reserve. Our students also loved meeting their billet families and making new friendships along the way.

We are incredibly proud of how our tamariki represented Waihi, performing beautifully, showing great manners, and embracing every opportunity.

A huge thank you to Huntley & St Marks Schools, Sam, Betty, Alison, Courtney, Jo, our wonderful host families, and James Meager for making this tour so special.

Our students returned home tired, happy, and inspired. What an amazing week! 🌟

We are so excited to have Dance lessons happening every Wednesday lunchtime with Haylee Griffin Dance Studio.

Our students are absolutely loving it! The energy, enthusiasm, and commitment each week has been amazing to see. They are already learning so much from new techniques and choreography to building confidence and performance skills.

We can’t wait to see their continued progress throughout the year! 💙

2026 has started off on a high note for the Waihi School Music Department 💙🎵

Music classes, itinerant (ITM) lessons, and our co-curricular groups are all well underway. It has been fantastic to see our students already embracing so many musical opportunities.

☀️It was a beautiful day to step outside the music classroom and teach our Year 6 & 7s a little folk dance to “Alabama Gal.”

There was plenty of giggling, a few tangled arms, and lots of laughter but by the end they were looking pretty slick for a first try! 💃🕺😄

On Thursday night, we proudly held our very first Waihi Spring Soirée, an event that has been a long-time vision of ours. We wanted to create something special that truly showcased the incredible talent of our students at Waihi.

With full lighting, sound, and visuals, our students took to the stage in a real production setting. The food and show style table seating made for a wonderful atmosphere, and every single act stepped up and shone brightly.

The night unfolded exactly as we had hoped and seeing our vision come to life made all the months of preparation so worthwhile.

Thank you to everyone that came along and supported the evening and all those that helped making it such a success.
