Next week we welcome Harold the Giraffe and the Life Education caravan back to our kura. Nadine (Harold’s human friend) runs a fantastic programme and you can look forward to hearing from your tamariki about their experiences. At the same time we will be welcoming Week 8 of Term 3, which means there will be only three weeks left of this term. This year certainly is a swift one!



Lastly, we all hope you have a great weekend and manage to stay both warm and dry (especially our Room 4 friends who braved a very chilly swim in the harbour today).

As the year is zooming by, we are starting to look ahead to next year. This means we are looking for ākonga who are keen to join Reorua next year. If your child is Year 3, 4, or 5 this year and feel like it could be the right place for them next year, please download this form or collect one from kura.

Kia ora koutou,



Despite the best efforts of the weather, the first day of our cultural festival was a huge success. Just like all great things that happen at a kura, tamariki took centre stage. We had a range of performances originating from Japan, Korea, China, Pasifika, and Aotearoa. As we all huddled under our covered court to avoid the rain we appreciated the warmth of each performance. The urge to connect and learn could be seen in the movements, singing, and speeches of the tamariki throughout the day. We also welcomed and enjoyed a fantastic performance from Te Kamo Primary’s Cook Island cultural group, Te Vaka o Te Kamo.



We have two more days of activities planned for our cultural festival this week. Thank you to the wide range of people who helped to not only support the tamariki with learning their performances but also for organising this three-day event. I would also like to acknowledge our whānau who were able to attend in support. The tamariki appreciated such an engaged and positive audience.

Kia ora koutou,



We hope you are safe and warm at home today. The Northland Taniwha are flying back into Whangārei at 11:50am today with the Ranfurly Shield. Our tamariki sent them off from the airport for their first away game of the season two weeks ago. Today we will welcome them back.



If your tamariki would like to show their support, Matua Matt will be there from 11:30am to gather together any tamariki who can make it to the airport. 1978 was the last year we held the Ranfurly Shield.



If we don’t see you there, we will see you on Tuesday next week for the first day back at school.

MATHS MADNESS IS IN FULL SWING FOR MATHS WEEK!

Talk about brainpower! Our school has been buzzing with numbers, problem-solving, and non-stop excitement over the last two weeks!

On Friday the 7th, we kicked things off celebrating our awesome math learners with our very own Mathex showdown!

This week, our students tackled a brand-new, mind-bending math challenge EVERY SINGLE DAY!

Huge shoutout to our incredible Year 5 & 6 Mathex teams who represented us at Whangārei Boys’ High School! They brought their A-game, quick thinking, and fantastic teamwork to the big stage.

We are SO proud of all our young mathematicians for showing determination, hustle, and high energy. Way to show everyone how fun math can be!

Kia ora koutou,



Today saw our annual Mathex competition. Class teams competed against each other in a game that involves running, problem solving, collaboration, and mathematics. With our student MCs, Myah and Harper hosting the event, everything ran smoothly. Competitors did a great job of keeping their cool while feeling the pressure of the moment and the audience was incredibly supportive of both their own team as well as others.



Next week sees the arrival of Maths Week, with a range of activities planned for your tamariki. The week after that we welcome School Library Week and our Book Character Parade on Wednesday the 19th of August. On the Friday the 21st of August we are closed as staff take part in professional learning around the curriculum and on the following Monday (24th of August) school is closed due to our midterm break.



Lots happening in just the first half of the term, with plenty more to come in the second half including middle team camp, the Life Education caravan visiting, our cultural festival, and much more. We will keep sending out information through our usual channels about upcoming events and we look forward to seeing you around. Take care.
