Parua Bay School

Parua Bay School Welcome to our fantastic school in Parua Bay, Northland. Established in 1871, Parua Bay School is on devices.

The name Parua Bay means โ€œThe Bay of Two Paโ€ which historically is thought to refer to Motukiore Island (near Headland Farm Park) and the Nook Headland. Parua Bayโ€™s first school opened in 1871 on Owhiwa Road (Mt Tiger) and relocated to its present site in 1872. Parua Bay School caters for New Entrants to Year 8 students, The school roll has increased rapidly over the past few years and stands at

around 310 students; we currently have 20% Maori students. In May 2021, we moved into our new block (Te Kupenga o Te Matauranga 'The Net of Knowledge') housing teaching spaces for year 3 - 6 students plus the Administration centre, staff room, library and maker-space. All classrooms incorporate sliding glass doors between rooms, separate breakout spaces, new autex walls, carpets and an upgrade of classroomsโ€™ I.C.T. Te Kupenga o Te Matauranga was officially opened by Her Worship the Mayor Sheryl Mai and Inupo Pauline Totoro on 12th May 2022. Parua Bay School operates a House Whanau system; all students enrolled are attached to one of our Whanau Houses, Manaia, Motukiore, Pakikaikutu and Taihika. Students compete for their house in a range of sporting and academic competitions throughout the year.
