Whangarei Academy of Dance & Performing Arts is known for nurturing developing dancers in a safe and progressive way. We teach age and developmentally appropriate Ballet Tap & Modern technique classes from a syllabus that allows younger students more time for movement exploration while providing advanced students with the tools to become professional dancers, if they so choose. As a result, all of our students develop self-esteem, self-discipline, and a strong fitness level that will provide a powerful edge in any future endeavor. Dance Courses Available

We teach from the BTDA syllabus the following Genres. BALLET TAP MODERN LYRICAL ACROBATIC

CONTEMPORARY NATIONAL PERFORMING ARTS

We also teach from the NZAMD syllabus in Jazz and Tap

All students are encouraged to sit for exams once they are ready and all students perform in the end of the year Show.

Did you know that almost ALL ballet terminology is in French?! 🇫🇷

Ballet was developed in France and Italy in the 15th century and the French language has been used ever since — which means every WADPA ballet dancer is basically learning a second language without even realising it!

😅 CAN WE JUST TAKE A MOMENT?! 😅

The last few weeks at WADPA have been absolutely WILD and we are only just catching our breath!

Here's what we have been up to…

✅ 6 days of BTDA Exams
✅ Dare to Dance Competition
✅ Assessments

All within the space of a few weeks — CRAZY doesn't even begin to cover it!

We could not be more proud of every single one of our incredible dancers who showed up, gave everything they had and absolutely smashed it through one of our biggest periods of the year!

The dedication, the hard work and the commitment from our dancers AND our amazing families has been nothing short of incredible — we see you and we are SO grateful!

Now if you need us… we'll be having a little lie down.....Joke!

Aly is 24 years old and lives in Auckland, NZ. She has been dancing since 3 years of age and has been trained in all genres of dance. She also has an extensive gymnastics background and was a competitive gymnast for 8 years. She coached gymnastics for 11 years before retiring at the end of 2023 and is currently teaching dance across Auckland in all styles.

In 2023 Aly gained her Bachelors in Screen and performing Arts, Majoring in Contemporary Dance. She also trained in Wellington at Extreme Dance under Emma and John Linkhorn. Throughout her professional dance career Aly has had many incredible opportunities including dancing in the Disneyland Christmas Parade, performing under big choreographers in LA and NYC, and dancing at studios such as The Playground, TheSpace, Millennium and Broadway Dance Centre.

“Dance is my passion always, but what I have found is that I absolutely love choreographing and helping young dancers find their passion for dance. I believe in creating a safe space where kids are excited to come and learn and to explore their full potential.”
