WBHS welcomes the "Log o' Wood"

It was fantastic to have the Ranfurly Shield at kura this week and give our boys and staff the opportunity to get up close to one of the great taonga of New Zealand rugby.

WBHS is right behind the Mighty Taniwha and especially proud of our Old Boys who will take the field this weekend as Northland defend the Shield against Waikato.

A huge mihi to Northland Rugby Union for sharing this special taonga with our kura.

Kia kaha, Taniwha! Let’s keep the Shield in Te Tai Tokerau for the summer!

🔬🏆 Celebrating our Science & Technology Fair success! 🏆🔬

We were incredibly proud to have 28 WBHS students take part in this year’s Central Northland Science & Technology Fair.

The standard of projects across all schools was exceptionally high, making the achievements of our students even more impressive. From environmental science and biological monitoring to technology, innovation and creative problem-solving, our boys demonstrated some fantastic scientific thinking and ingenuity.

A massive well done to every one of our 28 students who took part. Awards are fantastic, but the real achievement is the curiosity, perseverance, creativity and willingness to investigate a problem and find solutions that each student demonstrated.

🔨 **Looking for a quality young apprentice for 2027?**

As we move toward the end of 2026, WBHS has been fortunate to have a number of genuinely talented, well-qualified young men across **Wood, Trades, Engineering, Food and Electronics** who are looking for apprenticeship opportunities.

We often find that businesses get in touch after the school year has finished, looking for exactly this kind of student. Unfortunately, by then, some of our young men have already been snapped up, or they can be difficult for us to contact.

**If you think you may have an apprenticeship opportunity available now or in early 2027, please get in touch with us.**

We have staff who can help:
🔹 Match students with suitable roles
🔹 Set up Gateway placements
🔹 Arrange introductions and workplace visits
🔹 Organise for you to come to WBHS and meet potential apprentices
🔹 Facilitate interviews right here at school

🏆 A huge congratulations to Max Dunn! 🏆

We’re incredibly proud to celebrate the outstanding achievement of one of our students, Max, who recently competed in the NZ CrossFit Champs over three days.

Max put in an incredible performance to take out 🥇 FIRST PLACE, even beating the previous year’s winner!

What an amazing achievement and a fantastic result that reflects Max’s dedication, determination and hard work. 💪🔥

🚨 YEAR 11 UPDATE – TUESDAY 1 SEPTEMBER

Due to staff illness, we’re unable to safely staff all classes tomorrow.

Year 11 students will be rostered home on Tuesday 1 September. All other year levels attend school as normal.

📚 Year 11 students can use the day to prepare for upcoming exams and assessments.

🏫 Unable to stay home? The school library will be open and supervised for Year 11 students for independent study.

Year 11 returns to normal classes Wednesday 2 September.

We apologise for the disruption and thank families for their understanding and support

Kia ora e te whānau,

Due to a significant number of staff and relief teachers being unwell, we're unable to safely staff all classes tomorrow, Thursday 27 August. Year 10 students will be rostered home for the day — all other year levels attend as normal.

Our library will be open and supervised for any Year 10 student who can't stay home; they should report there on arrival.

We apologise for the short notice and thank you for your understanding. Year 10 return to normal classes Friday.
