Over the past week, members of the Gulf Harbour School team, with colleagues from Whangaparaoa College, had the opportunity to work with and learn from educational experts in Perth, Western Australia.
We had the privilege of visiting a range of primary and secondary schools, including Dayton Primary School, Aveley Secondary College, Port School, Rostrata Primary School, Winterfold Primary School, Warriapendi Primary School, and Dawson Park Primary School, where we observed high-impact teaching practices in action.
This trip strengthened our knowledge and understanding of Explicit Direct Instruction and the impact it can have for all students. As a team, we were honored to learn from educational experts, including Professor Lorraine Hammond, a respected Australian educator and researcher with extensive expertise in implementing the science of learning in schools. Each school we visited had implemented high-impact teaching, built positive learning cultures, and prioritised quality professional development for all staff.
As we return to Gulf Harbour, we feel inspired and motivated, ready to continue our journey as a leading high-impact school that uses evidence-based educational practices to create a better future for our students.
