McKenzie, Apache and Freddie all danced their next level assessments in August as well as competing at regionals in Palmerston North.
They performed amazingly with receiving “Achieved with Merit “ passes. Freddie also gained an Honours pass for his Cha Cha. The trio will certainly be a leading force in the upcoming Inter school Dancesport Challenge on Friday September 18th. Thanks to Mark Glastonbury for his tutorage and developing our students’ skills and love of dance.

Our Hockey and Netball Quad Squads welcomed Hereworth School for a valuable rematch ahead of next week’s Quadrangular Tournament. In challenging windy conditions, our hockey team produced an impressive performance to secure a win and in Netball Hereworth won this exhilarating, high paced game.

Thank you to the families who came along and supported these teams. We now look forward to the Quadrangular Tournament next week.

Our Year 8 students have been busy developing their entrepreneurial and financial literacy skills in the lead up to the Market Day. Working in small groups, students have created their own market companies, designed company names and selected products they believe will appeal to customers. Each company received an $80 start-up loan from the School to purchase materials and begin production. Students have learned about budgeting, pricing, marketing and product design as they work towards launching their businesses.
Money earned from market day sales will be reinvested back into each company, allowing students to order additional materials, refine product designs and respond to customer demand. This real-world business experience will help prepare them for a larger market opportunity at a Whanganui Sunday Market in Term 4, where they will take their products to a wider audience.
An important aspect of the project is giving back to the community. After expenses have been covered, all profits will be donated to charities chosen by the students.
Creativity, innovation and business acumen of our Year 8 students on display. ( The pop of yellow you see is our School’s support of the Cancer Society’s Daffodil Day). 🌼

Congratulations to our 29 students who represented St George’s School at the Whanganui Regional Chess Tournament. With 172 students competing, this was the largest regional event on record.

Our students demonstrated excellent determination, focus, and sportsmanship throughout the day, giving their all in every match.

Our Intermediate teams achieved an outstanding set of results, placing 1st, 2nd, and 4th overall. Vinnie was the top individual performer, winning all seven of his games to claim 1st place. Oliver finished 2nd, Hanyool 3rd, and Sophia 4th.

An extra special congratulations to Vinnie, Oliver, Hanyool, and Sophia, who have all qualified for the Individual National Chess Finals in October. Thanks to Cordell Hayward for his tutorage and encouragement of our students across the School.

Sports exchanges and the billeting experience are special opportunities independent schools offer. Here are highlights of the most recent exchange with us hosting Southwell School from Hamilton. Thanks to our coaches and supporters cheering on at the sidelines. Students played hard and fair, and new friendships formed. Thanks to our many families who hosted billets. 😊
