At kindergarten we have been supporting daffodil day by wearing yellow. We have been learning that daffodils are a symbol of hope, and that we can help others by showing kindness, caring for others, and supporting people who may be unwell. It has been a lovely opportunity to help our tamariki understand that even small acts of kindness can make a big difference 🌼

Learning through play and exploration is at the heart of what we do here at kindergarten. Through building, digging, connecting tracks, recognising letters in our names, helping friends, and learning to take turns, our tamariki are developing important physical, social, and literacy skills every day. This is just a glimpse of the learning that happens through play.

Every day at kindergarten is an opportunity for Tamariki to build friendships, develop trusting relationships and feel that they truly belong. Regular attendance helps children feel connected, confident and part of our kindergarten community. ❤️

Last Wednesday we were lucky to have a visit from Constable Jason and Matt with their two police dogs Paige and Oohiei. The tamariki were excited to meet the police constables who shared what the job of the police was in our community. We also learned about their uniforms and what resources police had on their belts. The police dogs were very well behaved and showed us how they listen with the help of a few doggy treats. At the end of their visit tamariki were able to sit in the police vehicle. Tamariki often include our emergency services in their dramatic play, having the police visit has strengthened their understanding of the important mahi our services have in our communities. We showed our appreciation with a waiata of tirama tirama Ngā mihi Constable Jason and Matt

Yesterday, we welcomed Kristi from Zero Waste, who spent time teaching us all about recycling and caring for our environment.
Together, we sorted rubbish from recycling and talked about the many ways we re-use materials at kindergarten to create wonderful creations, especially in our hot glue gun area!
Kristi also inspired us to reinstate our worm farm, and tamariki got involved in getting it started again. It was a great hands-on learning experience for everyone.
Every day is an opportunity to learn new skills and strengthen our understanding of how we can care for our environment.

Last night, we celebrated Puanga Matariki, the Māori New Year, together at kindergarten. It was a beautiful evening of coming together, singing waiata, sharing kai, strengthening connections, and celebrating learning with whānau. Tamariki proudly decorated the kindergarten with stars they had created, helped make apple crumble using apples harvested from our apple trees, and prepared vegetable soup with ingredients brought from home.

The evening also marked the introduction of our whānau boards. It was very special for tamariki to work on these alongside their families, and they took great pride in displaying them at kindergarten. The boards help to strengthen a sense of belonging, identity, and connection within our kindergarten community. Thank you to everyone who joined us to celebrate this special occasion. We hope you all had a wonderful evening. ✨🌟

Tamariki have been working hard in preparation for our Puanga event on Thursday. They’ve been collaborating to make star art to decorate kindergarten, as well as practicing our waiata every day. We can’t wait to share this special time with our whānau ❤️

We love having the library van from Whanganui District Library come to visit us here at kindergarten. It's something which tamariki look forward to. They take so much pride in choosing pukapuka to read and share with their friends at kindergarten.
