Putiki Kindergarten operates daily 6 hour sessions, 5 days a week. We draw families from the wider Wanganui region, including, rural, city and local communities. Teachers develop strong relationships with families and whanau and the kindergarten is well supported by the local community with a supportive committee. Strengths of the Kindergarten programme are inclusion, partnership and biculturalism. There is a Kohanga Reo in the Marae Community and Te Kura Kaupapa Maori School next door.

Puanga- Matariki 2026

Kia ora e te whānau,

We have been acknowledging and celebrating the Māori new year Puanga me Matariki. We have been reading, learning and singing about Puanga and Matariki during our mat times. We have also been engaging in hands on learning through ngā panga (puzzles) and uku (clay).

On Friday our day started early at Puanga by the awa. Afterwards we had an exciting day where we shared Kai and tamariki wore their pyjamas to kindergarten. We loved performing our waiata for our whānau.

We have been busy exploring our new Polydron building tiles at Kindergarten this afternoon, and just look at the incredible structures the tamariki have made so far! Ka rawe e hoa ma!
