Thornton School Enrolment Scheme
The Ministry of Education has identified that Thornton School is overcrowded or likely to be overcrowded and
has given the school board notice of this.
After consultation with the board, they have developed a proposed enrolment scheme for Thornton School
under section 72 of the Education and Training Act 2020.
As part of this process, the Ministry of Education have begun the process for the proposed enrolment scheme
for Thornton School with our school’s community and with people living in the area for which the school is a
reasonably convenient school.
This new enrolment scheme for Thornton School is proposed to start from 1 January 2027.

Please check out the event maps and information before the day so you know where to go and what to expect.

A reminder that some races may include sections along the stopbank, so suitable running shoes are highly recommended.

ALLAN MCBRIDE TROPHY - SERVICE TO CRICKET - Catherine Checkley Hogg

Catherine was nominated for the Allan McBride Trophy in recognition of her outstanding service to junior cricket in the Eastern Bay of Plenty.

As a foundation committee member of the Eastern Bay of Plenty Cricket Club, established in 2019, Catherine has played a pivotal role in building the club from the ground up. Her commitment, leadership, and unwavering support have been instrumental in shaping the club’s direction and ensuring a strong and sustainable future for junior cricket in our region.

Beyond her work within the club, Catherine has also generously volunteered her time with Lakeland and Bay of Plenty cricket. Her passion for junior development has been particularly evident through her leadership and encouragement of cricket within Whakatāne High School. Through her efforts, the club has strengthened its engagement within the school and the broader community, creating meaningful pathways for young players to participate and thrive.

Her service embodies the very spirit of the Allan McBride Trophy — commitment to junior development, community engagement, and selfless contribution to the game.
