Daffodil day today
Little Sprouts certainly coloured the preschool yellow to support this cause with children and teachers dressing in yellow and enjoyed lots of yellow activities throughout the day. A big thank you to everyone supporting our daffodil day 🌼

With our wet weather today we decided to move our furniture and get our bodies moving. Lots of games like musical chairs, ball racing and keep the balloons in the air. We practiced our patience as we had to wait for turns with some of the games, resilience as we were too slow to get a chair and learning how to cheer our peers on, learning how to be gracious with winning and losing is one of the hardest parts of games but teaches us so much.

A busy weekend as our playhouse came to an end. We have had it for almost 20years and over that time has been a place of joy for hundreds of children to enjoy as a home, ice cream shop, hospital and police station and many other things.
It was built during Father’s Day service 3 September 2006, as a fundraising activity for the Whakatane Salvation Army youth so they could travel to Fiji on a mission trip in January 2007

The importance of learning to roll a mat in a Montessori environment is connected to much more than simply putting equipment away. When a child learns to roll a mat slowly and carefully, they are developing fine motor control, coordination, concentration, and self-discipline. The movement requires the child to use both hands together, notice the edges of the mat, and keep the roll even from one end to the other. This careful process encourages patience and attention to detail, which are important foundations for later Montessori work.

Today we were lucky to have Constable Tee visit Little Sprouts to talk with the tamariki about road safety. She shared stories and important reminders about keeping safe in cars, including that the back seat is the safest place for children to ride, getting out on the footpath side, holding an adult’s hand near roads, and remembering to stop, look, and listen for traffic.
The children enjoyed learning practical ways to keep themselves safe and were excited to share their ideas during the visit. We even got to try on some police uniforms.
Visits like this are also a valuable way for tamariki to build positive relationships with police, helping them understand that police officers are safe, trusted people they can go to for help in an emergency.
A big thank you to Constable Tee for helping us learn how to be safe road users! 🚗🚶‍♀️🚦
