With all the rain lately, our Tuakana children have been making the most of the deck with some hands-on carpentry fun!

They’ve been practicing fine motor skills, learning about shapes, colours, and spatial awareness, and building focus and perseverance as they hammer nails into their creative designs.

Blue gloop and big adventures! πŸ’™πŸšœ Our teina tamariki had a blast exploring the slippery, squishy world of blue gloop! Some children took their time getting used to the texture, while others were straight in, pushing vehicles through the goo and making tracks.

This kind of messy play sparks imagination, builds fine motor skills, and encourages tamariki to explore cause and effect β€” all while having loads of fun with friends!

Last week, we celebrated Filipino Language Week at Weymouth Early Discoveries Centre! πŸ‡΅πŸ‡ As part of our cultural exploration, our tamariki had the special opportunity to make a traditional Filipino dish -cassava cake. 🧁

Through hands-on cooking, the children engaged in sensory learning, practiced measuring and mixing, and learned about ingredients that are common in Filipino cuisine.

The cassava cake was enjoyed during afternoon tea - a sweet and meaningful way to deepen our understanding and appreciation of Filipino traditions. ❀️✨

The tamariki in Tuakana have been learning a new Filipino game called Luksong Lubid.

Tamariki were learning the rules of the game and learning to play with one another by taking turns to jump over and under too. And also taking turns to turn to spin the rope too.

Today our tamariki set off on a fun fishing adventure in the sandpit! With fishing rods in hand and big imaginations, they tried to hook a fish-was it a red fish, blue fish, green fish, or maybe even a yellow one? πŸ’™πŸ’šβ€οΈπŸ’›

Our young explorers had a blast playing with a board full of connecting pipes! Some worked solo to create their own tracks, while others teamed up to build giant ones together. The fun didn’t stop there - they kept rearranging the pipes, testing new designs, and cheering as small balls zoomed through their creations.

There were lots of laughs, teamwork, and excitement as they discovered how things move -a perfect mix of play and learning! πŸ’‘πŸŽ‰
