Yesterday, a group of our four-year-old tamariki from Wellsford Preschool enjoyed a wonderful day discovering Wellsford. 💛
Our journey began with a stop at the local pātaka kai (food pantry), where we left tins and packets of food for those who might need them, and delivered ANZAC biscuits and poppies to the Heritage Rest Home. A heartfelt thank you to our families for your kindness and generosity.
We then enjoyed a peaceful walk through Currys Bush, where laughter and curiosity filled the air. The tamariki hid their painted rocks among the trees, leaving behind little treasures for others to discover—small acts of joy shared with our community.
On our way back into town, we paused at the local RSA to respectfully honour the ANZAC soldiers. It was a meaningful moment as we noticed familiar family names from our preschool on the crosses laid there, helping the children connect with the importance of remembrance.
We were warmly welcomed at ‘Caffe Cozy’ by Stacey and Alan, where we enjoyed delicious fluffies and coffee—yum! A perfect and well-earned rest after our big walk ☕
We then popped into Clever Endeavours to say hello to Trish and her amazing team, gifting flowers and exploring their wonderful handmade toys.
At Albertland Heritage Museum, the lovely ladies gave us a fantastic tour. The tamariki explored with curiosity, learning about the past and ANZAC history. A highlight was riding “Neddy,” a beautifully restored 100-year-old rocking horse with real horsehair. We also enjoyed listening to the piano being played. We gifted flowers as a thank you, which brought many smiles.
Then it was off to the park—wow! The tamariki showed great confidence climbing, balancing, and playing together. We shared a special McDonald’s lunch (a real treat!), followed by more time to laugh and play. A big thank you to the friendly and helpful young lady at McDonald’s for organising this for us.
To finish our day, we visited the Wellsford Library for some quiet reading and play. The tamariki settled beautifully into the calm space, and we thanked the lovely staff with flowers before we left.
Thank you to everyone we met along the way. These experiences help our tamariki feel connected, confident, and proud to be part of their local community. We are incredibly proud of the way they represented Wellsford Preschool 🌿 We’re already looking forward to our next local adventure!
