There’s something pretty special about a story being passed from a grandmother to her grandson, and then finding its way into the hands of tamariki. 🇹🇴
New Zealand-Tongan author and illustrator Lisala Halapua grew up listening to stories told by his Tongan grandmother. Those stories later became the inspiration for his Island Fables picture book series, including The Mouse and the Ant, The Mouse and the Octopus and The Worm and the Whale.
This Tongan Language Week, we’re celebrating the people, stories and traditions that keep language and culture present for the next generation.
A beautiful series to explore this week, and to keep on the bookshelf all year round.
