Y E S . W E . A R E . O P E N || Our wee South Featherston School has come through pretty well overnight! If your child is a 'bus' child, there are definitely no bus runs today so you will have to drop off and pick up.
Unfortunately, Alison is not able to get through from Martinborough, in fact all the southern roads out are closed, so we will be combining the Junior and LJR rooms today.
If you are keeping your wee one home today, please text the school phone: 021 084 29367 or send an absentee message via our SkoolLoop app.
We are expecting more rain throughout the day, so we will continue to monitor how things are. If, for safety reasons, we need to close later, we will let you all know.

W E A T H E R . U P D A T E . a n d . B U S . R U N . C A N C E L L E D . T O M O R R O W || GoBus has made the wise decision to cancel the bus run tomorrow because of this unprecedented rainfall. If our school remains open, any South Featherston School 'bus' children will either need to be brought out to school in the morning or you can choose to keep them at home. At this stage, it's unknown if the bus will run in the afternoon, but it would be safe to say that it likely won't. This means, if you do bring your 'bus' child to school, you will also need to come pick them up at the end of the day.

The weather warning for the Wairarapa has now been updated to a RED heavy rain warning. Please make sure you follow all advice and directions from the Wellington Region Emergency Management, and keep yourselves safe.

Just to clarify, our school is likely to be open tomorrow. While we've had some surface flooding today, we are still functioning ok, but we are continuing to monitor the situation closely. As mentioned on the SkoolLoop message I sent out earlier this evening, I'll be in at school early tomorrow and, if necessary, the board PM will make the call to close based on how the school comes through the night.

L E A R N I N G . S U P P O R T . A S S I S T A N T || We are looking for someone really special to come and join our close, committed, child-focussed team here at our small, but beautiful, semi-rural South Featherston School. Previous experience in a role such as this isn't a prerequisite (although that would be amazing!) however, we're most interested in finding someone who loves children, has an understanding of and empathy for neuro-diversity, champions inclusivity, has a great sense of humour and team-manship, and is willing to go that extra mile to support success, in all its forms, for all learners, big and small.
This position will be a term time only, fulltime (Monday to Friday, 9-3pm) for the remainder of 2026, with the possibility of extending into the future. You will work alongside a wide and diverse range of ākonga/learners across all four of our classrooms. We will provide you with any training and PLD you may need to fulfill your role . . . oh, and great morning teas!

So, Tim (our mowing man) has recently mowed the back field so bring along your kidlets' bikes and they can totally go crazy out there! 2025 . SFS . O N E S I E . D A Y || Every year, our small South Featherston School takes part in raising funds for the Wellington Free Ambulance service by taking part in the Wellington Free Onesie Day. We do this to support what is a great asset within our community - one which we hope never to have to use but are so incredibly grateful to have when it's needed. Last year we set out usual goal to make $250 to donate towards the appeal, and we completely blitzed that by raising an amazing $661 in total! We are again aiming for $250 this year, but we'd love to be able to raise more. Our tamariki and kaiako will be wearing onesies and bringing along a gold coin donation. We'll be having a much-loved 'sausage in bread' bbq for lunch ($2 each) and there will also be lemonade ice blocks for sale ($1 each).
