Talking about difference Empowering children’s mana in our communities of diversity. Our next hui on 16 May. Bronwen Olds and Kerrie Duncan will present.

Tamariki learn through observation. Our tamariki are learning all the time about social, emotional, and cultural literacy; and difference and diversity, from whānau, media, and the community around them. How do we as kaiako respond to this? Join us at the May OMEP session and explore how to use storytelling and Persona Dolls to talk to our tamariki about friendship, conflicts, exclusion, difference, and diversity.

Anne Meade and Amanda Higgins presented in April Children’s Environmental Kinship Guide. This has been designed by an international team to support teachers in their teaching and learning about, with, in and for nature. The resource is available currently at www.environmentalkinship.org. The guide is easy to use and beautifully presented.

The developers are looking for and welcoming feedback from around the world. The resource is really useful and inviting, looking at outcomes through the child's lens. If you are looking for more information contact us and we will forward your request.

EKI Kinship is based on the understanding that everything in the natural world is interrelated and that humans are a part of this as cohabiters.

The connections between strengths and dispositions are key to one's motivation. They are unique to each of us. Elise Anderson's presentation got us to look at things differently, knowing the clues to identifying strengths. The professional discussion during the workshop was extremely stimulating. We are hoping to get her back later in the year.

APRIL 11 is our next hui.

Children’s Environmental Kinship Framework
Fostering children’s learning about, in, with and for nature
Anne Meade and Amanda Higgins have been part of an international group who have
created the Children’s Environmental Kinship Framework. This free guide can support
educators around the world to implement a nature-based curriculum and deepen children’s
understanding of environmental kinship. They will share features of the guide and how it
can help grow educators’ practice. The learning-set version on Storypark is a great way for
kaiako and families to exchange how children become guardians/kaitiaki of natural
environments. Participants will workshop ways it can be used to foster children’s on-going
learning about, in, with, and for nature.
