Wellington East Girlsโ College Students Shine at Inventionator 2026
The Inventionator competition was a four-day nationwide online "Innovation Sprint" that recently challenged students to Play, Think, and Design. Participants from Wellington East Girlsโ College teamed up with students from across the country via Zoom to tackle real-world problems they are passionate about. Working collaboratively, the teams developed solutions ranging from interactive apps to physical machines, ultimately pitching their ideas to a panel of expert judges during a Grand Final event.
The experience left a lasting impact on our Year 9 students, providing them with new perspectives on problem-solving and global challenges. Sarah Al Subi reflected on the scale of the issues faced, saying, "It made me realize how much problems there are we can't solve".
Jodie Highnam found value in the diversity of thought encouraged by the sprint: "It was an amazing experience and made me realize how many different ways one solution can be interpreted, and how many slightly different solutions can be made for the same solution".
For many, the competition served as a powerful reminder of their potential as future leaders. Zara Kong shared, "It was an experience that proved to us kids that we are the future generation and just because we are small does not mean the problems or ideas we have/solved are small".
