Learner Spotlight: Marie Spence

Ka rawe to Marie on completing your NZ Certificate in Exercise (Level 4)!

Marie is the head of training and development for group trainers and ARMA, REVL Gym's innovative group training system across Aotearoa. With more than 25 years in the exercise industry, she's built an impressive career as an international Les Mills presenter, group fitness manager, and club manager. Originally from Scotland, Marie is known for her infectious energy and unmistakable accent!

For Marie, completing the qualification was about recognising the wealth of knowledge and experience she has gained throughout her career and having the formal accreditation to support her role in recruiting and developing the next generation of fitness coaches across New Zealand.

She appreciated the flexibility of the programme, which allowed her to fit study around a busy career and life as a mum of twins, while also drawing on the expertise of her fellow qualified trainers at REVL Gym to strengthen her learning.

Congratulations, Marie, on this fantastic achievement. We can't wait to see the impact you'll continue to make in the exercise industry for many years to come!

Congratulations to Jack Newman on achieving his NZ Certificate in Event & Entertainment Operations (Level 3)!

Jack has spent the past three years with MJF Lighting Limited in Wellington, building an impressive career in theatre and event lighting production. Encouraged by his manager, Blair (pictured), he completed his Te Mahi Ako qualification to formally recognise the skills and industry knowledge he has developed on the job.

From professional lighting design and crew operations to equipment hire and power distribution, Jack has worked across events of all sizes throughout Aotearoa. His work has taken him around the motu, contributing to iconic events such as Homegrown, WOW, and the Festival of Lights.

While the long days, late nights, and early starts can be demanding, Jack says the unforgettable experiences the MJF team creates make it all worthwhile.

Ka rawe, Jack! Your dedication to the events and entertainment industry is inspiring, and we can't wait to see what you'll achieve next.

Bring on the Level 4 qualification!

Learner spotlight: Jonny Orr

While visiting CLM's Lido Aquatic Centre in Palmerston North, our regional advisor, Ryan, had the opportunity to catch up with Jonny Orr and his colleague, Jude.

Jonny recently completed the NZ Certificate in Aquatics (Pool Lifeguard) (Level 3), a fantastic achievement that reflects his dedication to growing his skills and career in the aquatics industry.

During their kōrero, Jude shared that Jonny is also actively involved in coaching through his local polo club. With a genuine passion for helping others develop and succeed, it became clear that the next step in his learning journey was a natural fit.

We're excited that Jonny has now enrolled in the NZ Certificate in Sport Coaching (Level 3), joining one of our recently launched facilitated cohorts.

It's always inspiring to see learners continue to build their skills and apply them across different areas of the sport and recreation sector. We look forward to following Jonny's progress and celebrating his future achievements.

Ka mau te wehi, Jonny!
