“No one will protect what they don't care about, and no one will care about what they have never experienced”
David Attenborough

These words from David Attenborough illustrate the importance of giving tamariki opportunities to explore nature. And fall in love with everything it has to offer.
Happy World Environment Day!

Carterton Preschool and Littlies wish all New Zealanders a peaceful and respectful Waitangi Day as we think about the intent of Te Tiriti o Waitangi and what could have been if it had been acknowledged and enacted properly, treating all as equals.
In our centres we are guided by the principles of Te Tiriti o Waitangi - protection, participation, and partnership while working to honour the tikanga and knowledge of te ao Māori. We are heartened by the changes we see happening in Aotearoa that is revitalising Te Reo Māori.

It takes an amazing storyteller to enthrall preschoolers for an hour but the amazing author Deano Yipadee of Nee Naw managed to do that with ease. Carterton Preschool was delighted to attend this fun event by a favourite author at both Carterton Preschool and Littlies. The tamariki found the show to be very funny and interactive and will be a happy memory of their childhood! Thanks Carterton Library for organising such a fantastic event!

Carterton Preschool and Littlies have been transformed into places to enjoy the season of Christmas. The trees are decorated, the Santa dress ups are out and memory-making experiences are planned. Each day we unwrap a Christmas story to read, sing and hear Christmas carols, make gifts for others and smell the scents of Christmas baking. The best part is watching the wonder in the eyes of the children! We hope you too are taking the time to enjoy the season.

What a lovely experience for our tamariki yesterday, we waved until our arms almost fell off and were delighted to see the support of the parade by the Carterton Community. We would especially like to the thank Dwayne Osborne from East Taratahi Building Supplies for being an entertaining driver and supplying the truck! Well done to our teaching team and tamariki who pulled together an amazing float. See if you can spot us in the video...

Tamariki explore what they experience and for Ruby this is nurturing and taking care of babies with aroha, her play allows her to experience different roles within the relationship between carer and baby. 🥰

Our natural environment supports connections to Papatūānuku while our tamariki immerse themselves in play. With our philosophy of puddles should always jumped in and trees should always be climbed tamariki learn naturally about the weather and rain cycles while making the most amazing memories!

The tamariki at Carterton Preschool have been very busy using our large loose parts in their free play. We just love all the learning and exploration that is happening in these photos including turn-taking, having a laugh, science experiments with gravity and water, and best of all imagination.
