Hope everyone is staying warm, safe and dry out there! We have high hopes for calmer weather in March. With 133 schools around our rohe already signed up, it's gonna be a great celebration of active and sustainable travel (and a bit of Wellington weather resilience)!
And yes... Bus trips count too! We πŸ’›πŸ’š public transport!

Today is not the day to be out and about! Please follow the advice from WREMO and stay home if you are safe to do so. Avoid travel.
🚎Metlink has updates about trains and buses.
‼️Wellington Region Emergency Management Office is the best place for official advice on weather conditions. See their post about schools: https://www.facebook.com/share/p/14UvXWRNCNp/
🚸Below is an *unofficial* list of schools that have been reported closed. But check with your own school for information.
🏠Most importantly, if it is not safe for you or your whānau to travel, stay home!

With just over 2 weeks left to sign up, we've already got 131 schools registered across our rohe! πŸ’―
That's about two thirds of primary and intermediate schools in greater Wellington taking part in Movin'March! Getting active on their way to school 🚸, for themselvesπŸ‘©πŸ»β€πŸŽ“, their whānau πŸ§‘β€πŸ§‘β€πŸ§’, their community πŸ‘΅πŸ»πŸ§•πŸ» and, of course, te taiao 🏞️🌦️ (the environment). Ka rawe!!!

πŸ† We reckon we can break all the records this year and get over 140! We just need to entice a few more of the intermediates with some incentives or a friendly competition... Did we mention that the socks come in big kids sizes?!?
Get in quick though - s(t)ocks really are running out! πŸƒπŸ½πŸƒπŸΌβ€β™‚οΈπŸƒπŸ»β€β™€οΈ

If you've signed up since the start of the year, your pack will be sent out this week. Keep an eye out!
All registered schools listed here will be getting a pack: https://kurakete.gw.govt.nz/movinmarch-2026/register-for-movinmarch-2026/

Only a dozen or so boxes left so get in quick before we run out! β³βŒ›πŸ˜ž

Another great safety tip for everyone on our roads.
πŸ›‘πŸšΈ20k either wayπŸšΈπŸ›‘ when passing a school bus. Keep those little ones safe.

🚌 School Bus Safety – Wairarapa 🚌
Kia ora Wairarapa drivers β€” if you’re travelling our rural or urban roads, please be extra alert around school buses.

πŸ‘‰ Either way, it’s 20km/h when passing a stationary school bus.

Kids may be crossing the road, stepping out from behind the bus, or moving unpredictably β€” especially on rural routes where visibility can be limited.

Whānau, please take a moment to teach your tamariki the curb drill when waiting for school bus pick-ups or drop-offs:

β€’ Stop at the curb
β€’ Look and listen
β€’ Look again before crossing

A little patience from drivers and a little practice at home helps keep our kids safe.

And this means more tamariki out and about. Wellington District Police have made a great video with top tips to share with your whānau.
