Some beautiful pictures of our environment included in here - see if you can spot them! As well as taking a look at our other Childspace environments (Karori, Northland & Ngaio) 🌻
Childspace Wilton provides an excellent learning programme that encourages wonder and creativity for children aged between 2-5 years of age.
This page celebrates the thoughtful learning experiences our children and families engage in during their time at Childspace. A feature of our programme is our regular visits into the local community, especially Surrey Street playground and the local Otari bush for nature walks. We engage in many projects which celebrate the arts, nature, science, music, mathematics, literacy, social relationships and much more.

We are just loving all things risky at the moment and what better way to explore that than heading out into the ngahere for a spot of abseiling... these are some seriously adventurous and brave tamariki!

We have been fully embracing the more regular arrival of Tama-nui-te-rā lately with lots of water play. Here's a few snaps of al fresco foot spas (which naturally transformed into hair washing) and some waterslide action. Ahh the magic of water play!

Imaginative Play
Imaginative play is the great human thinking brain's (neo cortex) highest achievement. The brain has two separate-but-related functions that enable this apprenticeship for ALL abstract higher learning:
1. The child takes an image from within the brain and lays it onto another object, then proceeds to play in their created virtual reality: so leaves become plates, stones become money, sticks become swords, fingers become guns.
2. The child forms an image in their mind of what they would like to create, and then sets about finding materials and objects to bring the image out of their mind into the three dimensional world.
It's is worth remembering that children do not need toys for their play because they have the ability to create whatever they need for their play - as long as there is enough 'stuff' for them to do their image-magic on. Teachers call those open ended play objects "loose parts" but you and I probably just called it stuff when we were kids.
