Our purpose-built carpentry workshop is very popular with our tamariki, for engaging in Tārai Rākau. Using real tools designed for young learners, children confidently design and build their own unique creations, with support from kaiako as needed. We love seeing their ideas come to life and watching their skills grow with each project! 🌟🛠️

As an Enviroschool, sustainability underpins all that we do. Our tamariki are empowered to care for te taiao, connect with their community, and take meaningful action. From growing and cooking with produce from our gardens and whānau, to community partnerships, celebrating cultures, and using natural, reused, and upcycled resources, we learn together how to create a sustainable and caring future.

One of the unique features of our Preschool is our regular nature walks.

Three times each week, our teachers take small groups of children out to explore te taiao, ensuring every child has the opportunity to participate in a nature walk each week.

Our nature walks are an extension of what happens every day at Preschool. Learning through nature underpins our entire kaupapa, from our well-used gardens to our natural outdoor spaces and our commitment to embracing different types of weather.

🌿 Weekly nature walks for every child
🌿 Small groups that allow for meaningful exploration
🌿 Opportunities to build confidence, curiosity, and resilience
🌿 Learning inspired by the natural world, every day

These regular walks are just one way we bring our nature-based philosophy to life, creating rich opportunities for exploration, discovery, and learning.

We love seeing friendships and tuakana-teina relationships develop at Preschool, as children support, guide, play, and learn from each other in meaningful ways.

It’s wonderful to watch their confidence and social skills grow as they laugh, create, and explore together! 🌈✨

At Preschool our tamariki have plenty of opportunities to learn through joyful, active play. Our new slack line course supports resilience, confidence, and a love of movement. It has been very popular so far! 💪

Some of our outdoor adventures over the last two weeks - from mud-sliding in the rain, to building forts on the beach in the sun!

At Preschool, we use loose parts and natural resources to spark creativity, curiosity, and imagination. With no right or wrong way to play, every child can create, discover, and learn in their own unique way 🐚🍂🪵🌸

🌱We love hands-on learning in the garden at Preschool🌱

From growing our own food to caring for our fruit trees and using fresh ingredients in cooking, this is a special part of our kaupapa. We’ve recently joined the Garden to Table initiative and are excited to deepen this learning even further!

A big thank you to Olivia Boyd for visiting and leading a fun seed sowing activity—the children can’t wait to see their plants grow 🌼

Dough animals!

The idea for this week's food tech session came from one of our children - he found a picture of some children's homemade 'dough animals' in one of our collage magazines and asked if we could make them at Preschool.
Turtles were the most popular animal to make. Garnished with herbs from our garden, these were lots of fun to make and delicious to eat!
