✨ Kia ora koutou, ሀሎ, Selam Alekum, Talofa Lava, Magandang Umaga, ഹലോ, Ghaw luh a g**y, வணக்கம் whānau! ✨
Over the past few weeks, tamariki have been enthusiastically singing and participating in kapa haka, especially enjoying Toia Mai and Haere Mai. It has been wonderful to see their confidence and leadership shine, with many tamariki stepping into rangatira roles by leading waiata during hui and requesting kapa haka throughout the day.
Kapa haka is a powerful way for us to come together, strengthen our sense of whanaungatanga, and celebrate te reo Māori and tikanga Māori within our kindergarten community.
We've included links to these waiata below so tamariki can share them with you at home.

🇼🇸 Samoan Language Week at Berhampore Kindergarten 🇼🇸
Tālofa lava! This week, tamariki have been celebrating Vaia*o o le Gagana Sāmoa Samoan Language Week through stories, food, and Art. After reading about the many mango trees that grow in Samoa, today we will eat some yummy fresh mango together. Earlier in the week, tamariki also made delicious pani popo buns, exploring a special part of Samoan culture through baking and sharing.
Experiences like these help bring learning to life, allowing tamariki to explore language, culture, food, and community through their senses and shared experiences.

We’re so excited to share that our new playground is officially open!
A big thank you to Whānau Manaaki for making this happen we are very grateful for their support in helping bring this space to life for our tamariki.
This week we held a beautiful blessing to reopen the playground, with tamariki proudly supporting through waiata as we came together to mark this special moment.
The learning environment is the “third teacher,” playing an important role in sparking curiosity, creativity, exploration, and connection. We can’t wait to see tamariki enjoying and learning in this refreshed outdoor space.

This week, Tamariki have been very observant of the construction of our new outdoor space, and we have seen this interest transferring into all areas of the learning environment.
Tamariki even had the opportunity to go into the construction site and take turns sitting on the digger, and of course, we kaiako had a go too, an experience that sparked excitement and curiosity.
This interest has continued through brick laying in the sandpit and playdough area, construction songs and stories at hui, and collaborative conversations about how we should celebrate the opening, with ideas including cookies and singing together.
It has been wonderful to see tamariki so engaged in meaningful, hands-on learning inspired by the changes happening within our kindergarten.

To celebrate International Worker's Day, we joined in solidarity this morning with other teachers, nurses and hospital staff to raise our democratic voice and show the public and our government that we WANT CHANGE!! Pay equity is still something we are fighting hard for and recognition for the important work teachers and other vital services do for our community.

Kia ora e te whānau
With the worst of the weather expected to pass during the night, we will be open tomorrow.
However, due to the damage to the playground, we will only have the small concrete area at the back available to children. The rest of the playground is fenced off while damage is assessed and repaired.
To keep the day cozy, we will have a movie and warm milo for children in the afternoon.
