Pączki (ponch-key) are the Polish national doughnut.
They are the go to treat for that taste of decadence before the Lenten Fasting period begins. We'll just miss Tłusty Czwartek (Fat Thursday), but we'll still get you there before Ash Wednesday.
You can buy them at Little Poland's Cukiernia (patisserie bake sale). Be in early, at the Christmas Market we were all sold out by 2:30pm.
Little Poland at the Newtown Festival, Arney St, 10am to 7pm Sunday 2 March 2025.

Many Wellingtonians already know and how insanely good Ilan's falafel are. Don't believe me? Just let the pictures do the talking.
In addition to Shouk's usual mouthwatering line-up of fresh, delicious street food, Ilan is sharing two special childhood memories with visitors to the Wellington Polish Christmas Market. These are the dishes his Polish grandmother used to maek: a fresh herring salad loaded with dill, onions, sour cream and pickles - yum - all in a quarter of pita, and Pletzlach, an onion and poppyseed flat bread.
Ilan won his way into my heart by saving his supply of dill pickles up for us, and, in case you were wondering why I have taken to posting pictures of dill plants, this is the special crop that Ilan has been raising for the last two months just for us. That kind of commitment deserves reward.
A warm welcome to the Wellington Polish Christmas Market Ilan, Shavit and Hagar.
