🌿 Te Wiki o Te Reo Māori 2025 @ Wellington High 🌿
This week we’re looking forward to filling Taraika with wānanga, kōrero, mau rākau, theatre, art, and waiata — celebrating te reo and kaupapa Māori together.

✨ With guest speakers, creative workshops, and performances lined up, it’s a chance to connect, learn, and honour te reo Māori as a living, thriving taonga.

💚 We can’t wait to come together as a kura and keep the kaupapa alive — not just this week, but every day.

🌈 WHS Pride Week – A Fabulous Drag Celebration 🌈
What a way to crown WHS OutLOUD Pride week! Wednesday’s Drag Show brought colour, joy, and plenty of sparkle to our school hall. Huge thanks to our gorgeous guest performers who lit up the stage and to our own WHS LGBTQ+ group, Ultraviolet, for their mahi in making it happen. A special shout-out goes to our resident drag aficionado, Paton Smith, whose energy and passion were at the heart of this unforgettable event.

This week has been a time of celebrating diversity, community, and creativity and this show was the perfect Jewel in the glorious Tiara that is WHS outLOUD week!

🎸 Battle of the Bands – A incendiary evening of WHS rockstars 🎸
Last Sunday, Meow was packed to the rafters for Wellington High’s Battle of the Bands—a sold-out show featuring 16 phenomenal bands and one boisterous, buzzing audience. The energy was electric from start to finish as students took to the stage with everything from blistering rock to soulful originals.
Amidst the scorching lineup, LUX rose to the top and claimed the title of Battle champions. But as the cheers echoed through the venue, it was clear that the WHS creative community was the real overall winner.

🌟 Prizegiving Reflections 🌟

What a wonderful Tuesday morning celebrating our Year 12 and 13 students' achievements at Wellington High! Academic, sporting, and cultural excellence took center stage, with recognition across all areas of learning. But what truly makes our prizegivings special is the spirit our akonga bring to the occasion—supporting and celebrating each other with sincere, enthusiastic heartfelt cheers and applause. It's a proud moment not only for the school and staff but also for our students, who embrace the chance to uplift and honour their peers. A massive congratulations to all our prize winners and to our WHS community! 🌈👏
