NZMSA's official statement on the Legislation (Definitions of Woman and Man) Amendment Bill. π³οΈβππ³οΈββ§οΈ
Our statement outlines our opposition to the bill on the basis that it is inconsistent with contemporary scientific and medical knowledge, and risks causing harm to transgender, gender-diverse, intersex, and cisgender communities.
We are also concerned that the proposed legislation may create additional barriers to equitable healthcare and undermine trust in the health system.
As the representative body for medical students across Aotearoa New Zealand, we believe legislation affecting health and wellbeing should be informed by robust scientific evidence, public health expertise, and meaningful engagement with affected communities.
Our full statement is on our website and in our bio for all interested.
