After 20 years in the classroom and eight years as a Resource Teacher: Learning and Behaviour, Lavinia Robyns saw a pattern she could not ignore.
More young people were experiencing anxiety and distress, affecting their attendance, learning and behaviour. She also saw the difference a skilled guidance counsellor could make to a student’s sense of self, belonging and connection to school.
Now, with support from HealthCarePlus Grants for Good, Lavinia is studying towards a Master’s of Counselling while continuing to work full-time.
Her goal is to help build more connected, inclusive and supportive school communities, one young person at a time.
