Math learning is alive and thriving at Wellington South Kindergarten โ๏ธ๐งฎ From creating repeating patterns to sorting colours and exploring numbers, tamariki are engaging in rich, meaningful play that strengthens their curiosity and problem-solving.
These experiences support their growing ability to communicate ideas, as they notice, compare, organise, and explain their thinking in their own ways.
These photos capture just a glimpse of the creativity, focus, and joy our tamariki bring to mathematical thinking everyday ๐ญโจ

Today we had a visit from kaiako Charmaine and Janie from St Marks school where tamariki enjoyed a group activity focusing on literacy and numeracy. The teachers talked about what being 'school' ready looks like, and the importance of children being able to recognise their name and manage their belongings, and this is something that we are focused on here at Kindergarten.

At kindy over the past few months we have had a beautiful time celebrating Lunar New Year together.
We discovered the story behind the Lunar New Year, and acknowledged 2026 is year of the Fire Horse.
We have enjoyed some traditional Luna New Year food - dumplings & noodles! This was a fun and tasty way to revisit our learning that we eat โlong noodles for a long lifeโ when we welcome the new year.
A highlight has been exploring Lion dancing, and seeing a Lion head up close, as we brought the celebration to life with our own Lion dancing to Lunar New Year music.
It was such a joyful way to learn about culture, traditions, and the meaning behind this special celebration. Happy Lunar New Year! ๆฐๅนดๅฟซๆจ (Sun Nin Faai Lok) ๐งง๐ฆโจ

We had such a great day at the Newtown Festival today!
It was lovely seeing past and present kindy whฤnau and connecting with our community.
We were proud to share our E Tลซ Kaha campaign, advocating for high quality early childhood education for all tamariki.
Many families donโt realise that kindergartens are an affordable and accessible early childhood option with 100% qualified teachers.
If you love kindy as much as we do, help us spread the word with your friends and whฤnau! ๐

Teacher-only days are an important part of how we keep growing as kaiako and continue providing the very best for all tamariki. Yesterday we spent time deepening our understanding of oral language and literacy through the Kลwhiti Whakapae framework, reflecting together as a team and alongside our wider Whฤnau Manaaki Kindergartens kaiako, to strengthen the practices that support tamariki every day in our kindergartens ๐ฑ๐ธ
