Last week, a group of our students attended the Australian Law Students’ Association (ALSA) Conference in Adelaide, representing Te Herenga Waka as part of the wider NZLSA delegation. Our Senior Competition winners made us incredibly proud, returning home with new friendships, amazing experiences and outstanding results. In particular:
🏆 Isla Clarkson won the Paper Presentation Competition;
🥈 Harper Mitchell was runner-up in Witness Examination;
👏 George Patrick and Theo Dawson reached the semi-finals in Negotiations; and
👏 Patrick O’Rourke and Sam Marsh reached the quarter-finals in Client Interviewing.
It was also a fantastic opportunity to attend ALSA Council Meetings alongside other Law Students’ Society Presidents and hear from both current and former members of the Australian judiciary.
We can’t wait to welcome delegates from across New Zealand to Wellington for the New Zealand Law Students’ Association Conference later this August!

Last night was the Bell Gully Open Moot Final! We saw two incredible teams: Maja Hassell and Aston Dow, and Theo Dawson and George Patrick make their submissions to our panel of judges. This consisted of Justice Kós, Graeme Austin and Julian Brown. After a close competition, Theo and George took the win.
The Thomas Mooting Prize for Best Speaker was also awarded to George Patrick as the Winner, and Theo Dawson as the Runner Up.
Congratulations to all four competitors, you all put many hours into this moot. You did a very good job and should be proud of yourselves.
A big thank you to our judges for taking the time to make this competition happen and to for sponsoring this successful event!
