Looking for a new opportunity to put your building control expertise to work?

Tauranga City Council is seeking a qualified Building Control Officer – Processing to join its growing Building Services team and support the safe, compliant development of one of New Zealand’s fastest-growing cities.

The role would suit an experienced building control professional with:

✅ Regulation 18 qualification under the Building (Accreditation of Building Consent Authorities) Regulations 2006
✅ Current residential or commercial processing competency
✅ Experience in building consent processing or a related building control role
✅ Strong knowledge of the Building Act 2004, Building Code and associated regulations
✅ Sound technical judgement and attention to detail
✅ The ability to interpret legislation and apply it consistently and practically
✅ Strong written and verbal communication skills
✅ The ability to work effectively within statutory timeframes.

Working across residential, commercial and industrial projects, the successful applicant will assess consent applications, support timely, accurate consent decisions, provide technical advice and contribute to high-quality building outcomes for the Tauranga community.

We are seeking an experienced Accreditation and Technical Manager to lead and grow the Accredited Building Surveyors programme and provide technical direction across the Institute’s work.

This is an exciting opportunity for an experienced building surveying professional who wants to help shape industry standards, build capability and contribute to improving the quality of New Zealand’s built environment.

The successful candidate will bring:

✅ 10+ years’ experience across building surveying, design, regulatory or building control sectors
✅ Expert technical knowledge of the Building Code, building legislation, compliance pathways and regulatory processes
✅ Experience working with councils, government agencies, industry groups or professional bodies
✅ Excellent communication, organisation and relationship management skills
✅ Confidence working with senior leaders, technical specialists and sector stakeholders
