Hyrox. You didn’t disappoint. Even if things didn’t go to plan. 🫣

Injured my hip 3 strides into the race. I can’t even describe the pain, but giving up was not an option. There was more purpose in this race than the time I got. Did I want to smash it with my partner, yip! We were on target for a 1 hour 20 race if our sims were anything to go on.

So enter mental toughness and adaptability.

I stayed in it for my buddy, Susie who’d trained super hard over summer like me. She deserved to finish too!

I raced for my Dad whose body doesn’t function like it used to.

I raced to know how far my body could be pushed in my 50s… after all it’s just a number right?!

I have a powerful, strong body. That is a privilege that I do not take for granted at my age.

I’m always seeking challenges to keep my mind and body engaged. To face fears and overcome challenges. If you’re the same, I say give Hyrox a go! It’s so awesome!

But without and our coach I would never have given Hyrox a go. Forever grateful to you, Joe. Here’s to the next race… once rehab is out of the way! 😆

Ahimsa pratisthayam tat sannidhau vaira tyagah II:35
(Yoga Sutras)

For the one who is firmly established in non-violence all hostility ceases in the presence of that one.

Deep in the practice of Ahimsa (non violence) this month as I turn to yoga psychology for guidance that I can share.

A common theme with my clients at present is that of verbal injury - the damaging affect words can have on us.

Maybe you can recall the pain caused by the words of another. Or maybe your own inner voice is causing harm with its daily insults.

What we say matters!

“Vocal injury is more serious than physical, and mental injury is most serious. By physical injury one can destroy only physical forms. By vocal injury one can destroy both physical and mental forms. By mental injury one can destroy even the form of spirit.” -Shri Brahmananda Sarasvati, The Textbook of Yoga Psychology

One of the first steps in healing from ‘vocal injury’ is practicing self-compassion. A practice that strengthens our ability to ask questions like, what do I need right now? What can help me alleviate my suffering? Self compassion is our own ability to ‘be with’ ourselves in an accepting and loving manner.

Another year around the sun.
Each year becomes more meaningful.
I have my health and extra wrinkles to show the world I’ve lived, loved and survived. I don’t always like them… but they are part of my aging face, to which I am grateful for. I am here.

Our girls, who are now women filled with the grace and beauty that comes from their hearts, so full of love.
Plus they still want to hang with their mamma. ❤️

And we’re all protected by the funniest, strongest man we know. The Italian.
I am so grateful.

Birthdays, in my mind, are about creating memories, being surrounded by loved ones and reflecting on all that we have to be thankful for… even in the face of adversity. ❤️

My birthday wish for you all… may you be safe, may you be loved, may you be well and may you be happy. 🌸💐
