During the recent school holiday peak, Auckland Airport prepared for around 846,000 travellers moving through the airport across just two weeks, including more than 437,000 international passengers and 409,000 domestic travellers. Some days saw more than 14,000 international passengers departing alone.
Most people see the aircraft, pilots, and cabin crew.
But behind every busy travel day is a huge network of people working together to keep aviation moving safely and efficiently.
From baggage and freight loaders, check-in staff, and aircraft turnaround crews, through to Aviation Security , MPI, Customs, airside and landside operations, customer service teams, and air traffic control, every part of the operation must connect seamlessly.
When one part slows down, the whole system feels it.
That’s why skilled Airport Ground Operations staff are so important to New Zealand aviation.
Strong communication, operational knowledge, teamwork, and safety awareness help keep passengers, aircraft, and airports moving during some of the busiest travel periods of the year.

King’s Birthday is officially celebrated in June as part of a long-standing Commonwealth tradition. Although King Charles III was born in November, British monarchs have traditionally marked an “official” birthday during the warmer months to allow for large public celebrations and parades.
As many New Zealanders enjoy a well-earned long weekend for King’s Birthday, we also acknowledge the many people across our service sectors who continue supporting their communities, customers, and visitors throughout the public holiday.
Please note that Monday 1 June is a public holiday, and our offices will be closed. Our team will be back and available from Tuesday 2 June.
We hope everyone has a safe and enjoyable weekend.
