ECONOMIC INSIGHTS 📈

Our Year 13 Economics students, Lucy and Ruby, recently attended the Cullen Breakfast Club with their teacher, Ms Leisel Griffiths, gaining valuable insights from guest speaker Hon Barbara Edmonds.

Speaking on "The outlook for NZ's economy in an unstable world," Barbara shared perspectives on economic policy, resilience, leadership, and the importance of education in shaping future opportunities for young people.

The event provided a valuable connection between classroom learning and current economic issues, giving students the opportunity to hear firsthand from a leading voice in New Zealand's economic and political landscape.

Experiences such as these enrich our students’ understanding of the world around them and help bring their Economics studies to life!

TONGA LANGUAGE WEEK 🇹🇴

The Tongan flag is flying high as we celebrate Uike Kātoanga’i ‘o e Lea Faka-Tonga – Tonga Language Week.

This year’s theme, "Ko ‘etau hiva, ko e fe’unu mahu‘inga ia ki he mo‘ui ‘a e Tonga – Our music is a vital strand of our Tongan culture," highlights the important role music plays in Tongan identity and cultural expression.

Our celebrations began on Monday with students singing songs and raising the Tongan flag. Today, we enjoyed a vibrant performance from Alo Fa‘atasi at assembly. We look forward to celebrating Tongan language, culture, and community throughout the week. ❤️🤍

NATIONAL TOI WINNER 🏆🌟

A huge congratulations to Year 7 student Quinn, who received first place at the Junior Toi national finals!

Her award-winning garment, It's Giving Octopus, was inspired by the movement, colour, and intelligence of the octopus. After being named Star of the Night at the Wellington regional Junior Toi competition, Quinn went on to impress the judges again on the national stage.

We would also like to acknowledge Year 8 student Sarah, who was selected as a Junior Toi national finalist with her garment, The Parāikete Soldier, and Year 12 student Harry, who received the Bernina's Choice Award and a Highly Commended Award at the Senior Toi nationals for his garment, The Mantle.

Other award recipients include Year 13 student Joyce, whose garment Ananas Ascension received a Highly Commended Award, and Year 11 student Elodie, whose garment Distorted Bloom also received a Highly Commended Award at the Senior Toi nationals.

We are incredibly proud of all of these students and the dedication, creativity, and hard work they put into bringing their designs to life.

A special thank you to our Wearable Design teacher, Mrs Katherine Bertram, for the time, guidance, and encouragement she provides as she helps students turn their ideas into outstanding creations.

EXPLORING FUTURE PATHWAYS 🔧🚘🚤🌱

Some of our Year 13 students have been exploring future pathways into the trades this year, gaining valuable insights into a range of industries and career opportunities.

As part of the Practical Pathways Programme, our Year 13 students have been learning theory in building and construction through Building and Construction Industry Training Organisation, farming and primary industries with Primary ITO, automotive engineering with MITO New Zealand, and boatbuilding with MAST Academy of New Zealand. With the support of local businesses and organisations including Naylor Love, Greater Wellington Regional Council, and MJ Motors Miramar, along with other regional employers, students have been able to put their learning into practice in real-world settings. These hands-on experiences are helping them develop a clearer understanding of the pathways they may wish to pursue after completing their secondary education.

We are proud to offer this programme, led by our Future Pathways Co-ordinator, to help equip students with the knowledge and confidence to make informed decisions about their future.

Last week, we welcomed representatives from these organisations to a morning tea to celebrate the partnership and the opportunities it provides for our students. During the event, Naylor Love also presented our students with their prize for winning the mural competition earlier this year.

A big thank you to our industry partners for investing in the next generation and helping our students take meaningful steps towards their future careers!

TE KIWA NUI 2026

We were proud to take part in Te Kiwa Nui for the first time last week! Alo Fa'atasi, our Pasifika group, delivered an outstanding performance in their debut appearance at the festival and represented the College with pride.

Thank you to the Te Kiwa Nui organisers for welcoming us, and to the staff, parents, and whānau who helped make this opportunity possible.

DOUBLE FOOTBALL SUCCESS ⚽🏆

Congratulations to our girls' football teams on an incredible season!

Our U15 Girls are Strom Cup Champions for the second year running, finishing unbeaten, while our Girls' 1st XI have made history by winning the Onslow Cup, the first senior girls' football title for Scots College.

Our Head of Football, Martin Bueno, says:
"These achievements reflect the hard work, resilience, and passion of our players and coaches. We're incredibly proud of what they've accomplished and excited about the future of girls' football at Scots College."

MĀ PANGO, MĀ WHERO WEEK UPDATE 🖤❤️

What a week it has been so far!

Students enjoyed international food stalls at lunchtime on Tuesday, followed by exciting House competitions on Wednesday, including sack races, egg-and-spoon races, and wheelbarrow races. Throughout the week, students have also had the opportunity to contribute messages to the gratitude board.

A special thank you to our Prefects for their hard work in organising the week’s activities and helping make the celebrations such a success, and thank you to all students for bringing such fantastic House spirit and energy throughout the week!

SWIMMING SPORTS 🏊

Our Year 4–6 students made a splash at this week’s annual Swimming Sports at the Wellington Regional Aquatic Centre!

Following the completion of their swimming lessons, students took to the pool to compete for their Houses in this much-anticipated event. It was fantastic to see everyone giving their best effort, showing resilience, encouraging one another, and enjoying the opportunity to represent their House.

Well done to all who took part, and thank you to all the parents and whānau who came out to support our swimmers! 👏

DISCOVERING DIGITAL ART 💻🖼️

Year 3 and 4 students enjoyed an inspiring day at Te Papa yesterday, taking part in a Digital Art experience.

Using their observation skills, students explored how artists use different mediums to tell stories through their work. At Hīnātore, Te Papa's Learning Lab, they experimented with digital art-making tools including Procreate and FlipAnim, enhancing gallery photos and creating their own flipbook animations.

It was a fantastic opportunity to combine creativity, technology, and storytelling in a hands-on learning environment.
