On Friday 19th June the KC Smokefree Rockquest contenders converged on the Wairarapa Events Centre for the Wairarapa Regional Final.

Of the 15 acts competing, representing most of the colleges in the district, 8 were from Kuranui college - a testament to the vibrant performing arts culture at our kura. Our students came away with awards for best vocal (Indi Jordan), musicianship (Sophie Sutton), lyric award (Harry Crawford), 1st place in Tangata Beats (Mycellium) and 3rd place Rockquest (Skunk Head Fishbowl).

But the awards are just the icing on a great big messy, chaotic, passionate, talented and fun music cake. Every young musician who took part gave it everything and fully deserved their 7 minutes under the lights!

Recently we had our amazing Drama students at the National SGCNZ festival at the St James Theatre in Wellington. They had a brilliant time performing Shakespeare’s “King John” and “Cymbeline”, as well as running around working backstage. They walked away with a number of awards, including the highly sought after “Most Original Choice of Play” - for which we came first and second 😂
