St Francis de Sales School Closed tomorrow.

Kia ora e te whānau,

Due to the official Red Weather Warning and state of emergency declared by the Wellington Regional Emergency Management Office, we will be closed tomorrow.

We have made this decision early to give whānau time to put plans in place for the supervision of their children.

We are deeply mindful that the heavy rain and flooding has caused significant disruption and stress to families.

Our thoughts and prayers are with you all during this challenging time.

Please keep an eye out on HERO for further updates

Please stay safe everyone.

A lovely two-year old tradition - having a bit of fun led by our seniors on the last day of the year - singing and dancing to Christmas carols - in this case, led by absolute stars!!

Please spread the word about this fantastic SFDS School fundraiser!

At the risk of causing a trauma response - Here is a throw-back to Covid times!

Some of you may remember that back in April 2022 Max and Amy Patté visited our Junior assembly along with Beau's classmates to farewell the classes and to donate a maquette of Solace in the Wind to the school before they moved their family overseas.

We were thrilled to receive this - I’m sure you are all familiar with the full sized original statue on the waterfront. Max is also very well known, internationally for his talent as a multimedia artist. https://www.maxpatte.com/

Max invited us at the time to do as we wished with the maquette - display it, put it on a plinth outside (yes, it would stand up to the Wellington elements), or use it for fundraising! Max signed the Maquette at the time too!

It is very exciting that PSL has now put the maquette up for auction to raise funds for things that enrich the learning experiences of all of our tamariki. Its value has increased over the past 3 years, and is likely to keep gaining value over time.

Maybe you know someone who is building a beautiful art collection, and would like to add this mini of Solace in the Wind to their collection? Please support our school by spreading the word about this PSL auction. I'm certainly going to miss the little guy, who has been harbouring safely in my office for the past three years!

Here is a link to the online auction: https://www.trademe.co.nz/a/marketplace/home-living/home-decor/ornaments-sculptures/other/listing/5505569793

The auction closes: Fri 12th Sep, 8:00pm - During the Quiz Night!

Details:

This cast steel maquette is 100% New Zealand made and an exact 1/6 scale replica of the original installed on Wellington’s Waterfront in 2008. The maquette stands on a genuine piece of old Wellington wharf beam which the artist tracked down and purchased especially for the purpose of this sculpture.

Maquette height - 300mm

Maquette on plinth height - 330mm
