Today, our Year 3–6 students were treated to an inspiring one-hour session with accredited coach and New Zealand Chess Champion, Paul Macdonald. Every student had the opportunity to sit behind a chessboard, putting their skills to the test in a series of games after a refresher on the essential rules of play.
Paul shared his personal journey, reflecting on a decade of being consistently beaten by his brother. He spoke candidly about the importance of perseverance, explaining how he practised, sought advice from others, and refused to give up until he reached the top. We are incredibly appreciative of Paul for sharing both his expertise and his message of resilience with our students!

What an amazing time at Te Nukuao Wellington Zoo! 🐾
This week Wellington weather was perfect for getting out and about!
Monday saw room Rooms 1–5 board buses to Newtown, Wednesday Rooms 11–14 and Thursday – Rooms 8 & 9, 15–17.
They took part in education sessions with the zoo educators, enjoyed tarantula talks 🕷️, and spent time observing a wide range of incredible animals and creatures.
There was so much excitement and curiosity throughout the week!
What were students favourites? 🐾
Was it the meerkats? The lions? The tigers? Or maybe the sun bears?
Special thanks to our parents and whānau who came with us on the trips.
