Happy World Book Day! 📚

Today is a celebration of stories. The ones that inspire us, challenge us, comfort us, and open our eyes to new perspectives.

Books have an incredible power. They can transport us to different places and help us understand experiences beyond our own. 💫

World Book Day is also a reminder of how important access to books and literacy is for children everywhere. A single book can spark curiosity, build confidence, and open up a lifetime of learning.

So today, whether you're rereading an old favourite, discovering a new story, or sharing a book, take a moment to celebrate the magic of reading. 📖

Today is International Mother Language Day! 🗺️Language serves as a vessel for culture, heritage, and knowledge, and preservation of indigenous languages helps multicultural societies and their children thrive.

📸Children learning at a Community Club in Yucatan, Mexico. This club provides a safe space where children can play, have fun, and learn about healthy habits while reinforcing their reading skills. The club also involves children and adolescents who predominantly speak Mayan, ensuring the implementation and facilitation of activities in their native language.

🛡️💻📱 As children spend more time online, ensuring their safety in the digital world has never been more important. With countless opportunities for learning and entertainment, it’s crucial to guide them through the internet in a safe and responsible way.

By being proactive, we can help our children enjoy the benefits of technology while keeping them protected from potential risks.

Every year our Inclusive Calendar is published with the aim to support kaiako and tamariki with celebrating the days that mean the most to them, and maybe finding some new ones! 🎉📆

✨ Download the Inclusive Classroom Calendar for 2026 here: https://www.savethechildren.org.nz/educationhub/inclusive-calendar-2026

One way to ensure every child feels seen, is to recognise days that are significant to their culture, interests, abilities, language, or any other attribute that makes them unique.

This classroom calendar includes days of cultural significance, language weeks, awareness days, days about global issues and celebrations that might simply be of interest to your learners. We've also included links to some of our resources that might be helpful during certain months! 😅💁

If you love our inclusive calendar, please share it with your friends and colleagues, or tag them below! 😍

He mōtika tō ia tamaiti! Every child has rights! 🫶

This year, on Waitangi Day, we have a chance to remind ourselves how important the rights of our tangata whenua are, and how we can continue to ensure tamariki know these rights and are empowered to advocate for them. ❤️

🌏 In Aotearoa, we consider the rights of children in the context of Te Tiriti o Waitangi, and a child’s connection with their family, whānau, hapu, iwi and communities.

Learn more about children's rights with our children's rights flyer or poster in Te Reo Māori and English from our education hub 👉 https://www.savethechildren.org.nz/educationhub/childrens-rights-flyer
