Last year, after successfully running “capital bachata connection 2024” in September, we took a long and much needed break. During this time, we looked back over the last five years of cbc festivals and thought about what we want to do in the future. This is a long post, so hold tight!
We’ve loved running all our cbc festivals. It’s been great fun showcasing the Wellington bachata community, as well as bringing in teachers and dancers from across the country and beyond. With everyone’s help and attendance the cbc festivals have steadily grown into something substantial, of which we have been really proud.
As it’s grown, the level of complexity, administration and management has ramped up as well and, whilst we have the amazing support of all our Wellington teachers, the festival is primarily run by just the two of us. It’s a big job and last year we noticed the workload was becoming unsustainable. It began impacting our personal lives to the point where we stopped dancing, practicing and learning - which was the reason we started all this in the first place.
So sadly, we’ve made the difficult decision to stop running the festival, and 2024 will be the last.
What does that mean for the future?
Whilst we’re sad to see the festival go, cbc will still be active. We’ll continue running our monthly Bailamos Bachata party at Southern Cross, and plan to run smaller weekend events and socials in the future (see the link for Kristian & Amie below, that’s going to be amazing 😃). This definitely isn’t goodbye.
Thank you so much to all the schools and teachers who taught and assisted at the cbc festivals. We couldn’t have done it without all your help. And a huge thank you to everyone who attended, performed, danced, sat on registration desks, put up posters, helped us put away the chairs at the end of the night, gave us hugs …. the list is very long.
If you read all the way down to here, you are amazing and we’ll see you on a dance floor very soon.

‘capital bachata connection 2024’
We know you’ve been waiting a long time for these and they are finally here! Sarah and Richard were in the throes of moving house and doing urgent renovations, which did delay things a little.
There are loads of photos and they are gorgeous (we just have a few here on this post). The full complement is available to see and download from Richard’s website:

It’s official – we’ve been added to the big board of regular events that happen at the Southern Cross!
We’re immortalised in a poster so you know that we mean business 😉
Join us at the Southern Cross, the second Sunday of each month, for a fantastic free party. It’s an amazing venue that we’re very grateful to be able to use, and we’re also very lucky to have such a supportive, fun community to share it with.
See you March 12th (the event will be out soon) 😃

And this is nearly it for 2022, a year of challenges and changes for NZ and the world. Despite the difficulties facing the dance community, we managed to organise a number of events, which made us very happy.
Thanks to everyone who assisted, taught, attended or volunteered at any of our events - we’re really grateful for your support and for making the Wellington bachata scene such a fun and vibrant place.
Have a great and safe New Year and we hope to see you all in 2023!
