Every parent wants their child to feel confident and settled at school — not rushed, not compared, and supported to grow in a way that feels right. For many families, Montessori is the solution.

Montessori can support every child, but it doesn’t suit every parent. These sessions are a chance to explore the space, and see whether this approach aligns with your values and hopes for your child’s primary years.

We’re holding a small number of information and observation mornings at Ahuroa School for families curious about Montessori education for ages 6–12.

☀️ We were so fortunate to have such beautiful weather yesterday!

The children wasted no time heading outdoors — collecting, comparing, and classifying leaves from around our environment 🍃

What began as a nature walk quickly turned into a scientific investigation! There was so much thoughtful discussion about leaf venation and how the structure of each leaf helps us classify.

We use Racks and Tubes to physically share quantities — placing beads one by one to truly see what division means. It’s not about memorising steps, but about understanding relationships between numbers.

Children love this work because it feels like solving a puzzle — each tube, bead, and rack helping them discover how numbers connect and divide.

Montessori mathematics nurtures confident, capable thinkers who understand why things work — not just how.

Our classroom is not just indoors, it extends far beyond our into the natural world around us and the community.

Every day, children are out in nature, feeding the chickens, tending to the gardens or investigating different types of leaves, stems and roots.

These hands-on moments teach so much more than responsibility- they nurture empathy, independence and a genuine connection to the living world around them. 🩷

These three were deeply concentrated building numbers using golden beads - thousands, hundreds, tens and units all coming together to make big, beautiful numbers!
