And that’s a wrap!

1 script + 17 cast + 2 directors + 2 techs + 2 understudies + (multiple costume changes, light sets and audio elements) + 3 audiences and our incredible shoestring whanau = 1 amazing 2 week intensive drama experience and 3 outstanding performances that we were privileged (and proud) to present to our local community .

The hall may be empty , but our memories are very full of the friendships made and developed and the audiences we were able to bring smiles (and tears!) to, with the special story we brought to life .

Fabulous opening night with this crazy crew !

Many casts would practice for months for what these guys achieved in 2 intensive weeks ..

Stunning acting , stunning lighting and sound … and stunning team work to make it happen

Excitement as the lighting arrived at the theatre today and a number of the cast got to rig and get familiar with how the lighting might work for the scenes they’ve blocked and directed.

This really is a team effort and develops a huge range of theatre skills

Sewing in full swing today at Waiuku Memorial Hall

Could it be that they’re sewing a wreathe ? A hat ? A frisbee ? What could the cast possibly need for a story set in Egypt ?

Pops of colour bringing the scenes to life

This fabric was spotted on a pile in the costume department today and has now become quite a significant symbol - with a story of its own to tell.

Our amazing cast during their lunch break !

The lunchtime football competition has become quite the tradition for this group … Sadly they only had a 5minute game today as costuming and blocking scenes took priority. Whilst these areas saw great progress, the football game remained at 0-0 (much to the dismay of the cast ⚽️)

Today , some of our cast had the privilege of going and talking with a local seniors group Waiuku and Districts Combined Churches/St Andrews Centre about the production they’re in the process of forming .

They walked, in costume, to present information to their listeners about their 2 week experience … and to personally invite them to attend the matinee performance - where gold card holders will be offered a “scone and cuppa” during the interval as part of their ticket price !

We love being part of the community - in fact, a core value our small theatre group holds is that will “seek opportunities to connect with the local community”.

A hive of activity today at the theatre !

Our cast this year are blocking a number of scenes themselves . That’s a significant step in creating a full production and is happening with those cast members expressing an interest in doing so ! That means many of the scenes you will see during our shows have been Directed by cast between 10 and 17yrs old !

(🤔What is “blocking”? - the choreography of actors,, and props within a given space - creating the scene around the scripting 🎭)
