Why attend George Street Kindergarten? We are semi-rural in a small close knit community
We acknowledge and value the prior experiences and knowledge that children bring to kindergarten
We value and respect our bicultural heritage and the cultural diversity of our kindergarten. We believe that children learn best through play and a variety of hands on experiences
We value and respect the building of reciprocal relationships with parents/whānau through encouraging their input and participation in the kindergarten programme
We believe teachers and children/whānau work together as partners in learning.

We enjoy getting our into our local community and taking tamariki on trips. Today we walked a group of our older children to the Waiuku Theatre to see their new show Twisted Tales. Parents and children had a great time singing along and watching the magical fairytales, with a twist, unfold! It is such a great experience for tamariki to experience real life storytelling, acting, drama, music and being in a theatre.

Our Matariki celebration brought tamariki, whanau and kaiako together to share kai, enjoy the warmth of the firepit and have fun participating in activities including a mini disco to finish. Tamariki enjoyed playdough, wool weaving, raranaga with harakeke, cookie decorating and creating star art. A wonderful part of our afternoon was listening to tamariki sharing the waiata they have learnt with such beautiful voices, confidence and pride, what a fantastic show they put on for us! Our Kindergarten community is such a special one, we really valued this time of strengthening our connections with everyone.

A sunny winter's day was the perfect opportunity for a group of children to design and construct their own boats using recycled materials. What started with a couple of children soon turned into a huge group sharing ideas, collaborating, using the glue guns, sellotape and pva. In the afternoon the children lined up ready to test their boats, would they sink or would they float? Some boats had to be given alterations and their designs adapted, we learnt what materials worked and what didn’t. Through hands on exploration children refined their working theories while developing early scientific thinking and problem solving skills.

We were so fortunate to have the Waiuku Primary Pacifica group come to Kindy this week. Our tamariki and kaiako enjoyed this visit immensely, listening to the vibrant music, seeing the dances and joining in with the sasa. Authentic experiences like this foster appreciation for the diverse cultures that make up our community. Thankyou Waiuku Primary we hope you will come back soon!

Tamariki always enjoy the fire pit, especially on a cold winter's day. Last week we enjoyed gathering together to have a cup of hot chocolate around the fire, share stories and sing songs. Experiences like this are so much fun and encourage a strong sense of belonging and connection within our Kindergarten.
