On Anzac Day, we came together to reflect on the spirit of sacrifice and service. 🌺

We're sharing a few photos from the evening, along with images of the Field of Remembrance — nearly 600 crosses honouring Māori service personnel. The Field remains on display until 9 May; we invite you to visit and take a moment to reflect.

The A Company Leadership Academy honoured tradition by marching up the Nias Track, following in the footsteps of the 28 (Māori) Battalion in 1940, and cadets delivered the oaths of remembrance with pride.

A heartfelt thank you to everyone who helped make our Commemorative Evening Service so special — from our team behind the scenes, to our guest speakers Tia Ashby and Ringa Dalton, Bishop Kito who officiated the service, and Mr Waihoroi Shortland for delivering a stirring mihi whakatau welcoming all visitors.

Ka maumahara tonu tātou ki a rātou.

He Whakaaturanga Hou

We are honoured to share the opening of our latest exhibition “Operation Grapple – We Were There”, by Denise Baynham.

Operation Grapple was a series of thermonuclear/hydrogen weapons tests conducted in the South Pacific Ocean from May 1957 until September 1958. A total of 551 New Zealand naval personnel manned the three ships provided by the Royal New Zealand Navy, the HMNZS Lachlan to survey the islands pre-tests, and the HMNZS Pukaki and Rotoiti for the detonations. This exhibition highlights and honours the stories of 19 of these veterans who experienced Operation Grapple firsthand. This is their story.

The exhibition will be open to the public from April 18th here at Te Kōngahu Museum of Waitangi.

✨We’re in the final few weeks of Te Kōngahu’s current exhibition, ‘Encountering Aotearoa’ (closing 25 January, 2025).
✨Hāngī & Concert nights are now running 4 days a week which means more opportunities for you all to experience our best-selling package!

Nō mātou te whiwhi!

We are so glad to have hosted a kōhanga from Napier! Te Kōhanga Reo o Te Ara Hou made their way to us in the Winterless North just last week to receive an educational experience from our awesome team of educators.

We know that many kura and kōhanga may not have the means or the resources to make the trip to Waitangi. We are proud to share an alternative via our digital experiences. Why not bring Waitangi to your classroom?
